October themes
October is a very busy month in first grade. We
will discuss and complete projects dealing with
Columbus Day, fire safety, Fall and Halloween this
month. Please look for books and vocabulary words to
read and practice at home.
Bring your smile to school for school
pictures!
School Photo day is Wednesday, October 12th.
Please remember to send in your child’s photo envelope
with your selection if you wish to purchase.
Fire Prevention Week
Fire prevention week will begin on, October 9th.
Please discuss and review the fire safety rules with
your child. We are also encouraging children to learn
their address and phone number. Remember... STOP DROP AND ROLL!
Crystal Cave Field Trip
We will be going on our first field trip to Crystal
Cave on Monday, October 31st. Raindate, if needed,
will be Wednesday, Nov. 1st. We will tour the cave, pan
for rocks and enjoy the outdoor activities. Please
dress for the weather. We will be outdoors all day.
Remember to bring a bag lunch with a drink and your
name on the bag. Please do not send any additional
money with your child. Each child will have a bag of
gems to bring home with them. Also, remember to bring
your good behavior. We look forward to a fun day of
learning.
Author Day
This month’s author is Gene Zion. He is the author
of Harry the Dirty Dog books. We will be sharing books
throughout the month to highlight his work.
Snacks – please make sure that the snacks you send for
your child are of the “healthy variety”.
We ask that
you do not send candy as a snack. Thank you!
Halloween Parade and Party
Our Halloween party and parade will be on Thursday,
October 27th. We will parade around the school
community and the party will be in our classroom
immediately after. Please put your child’s costume in
a bag with his or her name on the front. Also, please
make sure your child can put on their costume with
minimal assistance. Homeroom parents will be
available, but time is limited. Thank you for your
cooperation. HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
