Casting Opportunity

What:
The Wheelersburg High School Vocal Music Department is proud to announce that our
spring musical production will be the classic musical “The Wizard of Oz.” We are excited
to offer a voluntary performance opportunity to our younger students to be cast in the
role of some of the Munchkins (Munchkin Mayor, Barrister, and Coroner).
Who:
This casting opportunity is available to 7th and 8th grade students at Wheelersburg
Middle School.
How:
Students will submit a statement of interest and application to the building office
secretary. The applications will be reviewed by the Music Department personnel.
Successful applicants will be invited for an audition.
When:
The application information will be available in the WMS Office Monday, December 8th.
The deadline for submitting an application is Friday, December 19th. The application
must be returned to the WMS Office by 3:00pm for further consideration. No late
applications will be accepted for any reason. This information will also be available on
Mrs. Harner’s teacher webpage.
Process:
Casting begins with the application process. Students who express an interest in this
phase may or may not receive an audition.
The following is the timeline of the application review, announcement of students
selected to audition, and audition schedule:
 December 1st: announcement of casting opportunity
 December 8th: applications made available
 December 19th: applications due in WMS Office by 3:00pm
 January 3 - 8th: applications reviewed by Music Dept. personnel
 January 9th: invitations extended for auditions to selected students
 January 26th and 28th: auditions for selected students via application process
Additional Information:
1. Students interested in participating in the first phase of the casting process are not
guaranteed an audition.
2. The Music Department expects a large turnout of students interested in participating in
the show. It will be impossible to cast every student. Please respect the decisions of the
directors and casting panel.
3. Munchkin rehearsals will begin in February, after school from 2:45 – 4:30, Monday
through Thursday. A full rehearsal schedule will be available to students who are offered
an audition. Students are only expected to be at rehearsals that include their scenes.
Evening rehearsals from 6:00 – 9:00pm will take place for full cast once the performance
dates draw nearer.
4. The performance dates are April 10, 11, and 12th.
5. Please note if a student is cast in the show, it is a very large commitment. It takes a lot
of time, practice, and memorization. The Music Department expects a full commitment
from each person cast in the show.
COSTUME FEE:
*** Any elementary student cast in the show will be responsible for paying for their own
costume. The costume fee is $35. If your child is cast in the show, you agree to pay this fee—it
is a requirement for participation in the show. ***

3. Summary of theatrical or musical experience (please attach separate sheet if necessary).
For example…participated in previous school programs, lead role in Church drama, and
or a role in a community theatre production. This summary is not a requirement for
consideration or participation but is helpful in determining your interests and
experiences.

4. Summary of theatrical or music training (please attach separate sheet if necessary). For
example...private piano lessons, theatre workshops, play an instrument, sing in a
choir/group, or perform solos under the direction of a trained musician. This summary is
not a requirement for consideration or participation but is helpful in determining your
interests and experiences.

5. Statement of academic accomplishments and school citizenship. For example…you
music grade, your band grade, honor roll academic recognitions, absence and tardiness,
Positive Pirate, Pirate Bucks, discipline referrals. This is a required part of the
application.
