Talking about public speaking

1) Idea from the survey at beginning of year

Fill out survey so we can get a sense of what your goals and plans are for the coming semester

Kid President video: A pep talk from Kid President to You

1) “you were made to be awesome” a.

just remember this as you are heading into tests and finals and the rest of the year

Public speaking activity

1) First read the list of Do’s and Don’ts

2) Break into groups and each person give a speech on a random topic to the group

What makes people good public speakers

1) Confidence

2) Passion

3) Time and Tempo- smooth and deep voices draw people in and engage them in listening, deliberate pauses and rhythm

4) Eye contact-engaging, hard to not pay attention

F.

Difficulties:

1) Coming up with what to say on the fly

2) Hard making it seem like you are not caught off guard

3) Speaking for a long set time period

4) Kill time if you get off on a random tangent

Easier:

1) To maintain eye contact in smaller groups

Take away:

1) Know to prepare ahead of time

C. Vice President of Service Learning

1) 8hour requirement is only for inducted members a.

If you are stressed or concerned about this talk to Ali b.

There will be an extra service opportunity after Fall Break for those worried about getting their hours done c.

Ali has forms for you to fill out for you to get credit for hours done outside of the org
