Throughout the year your Spanish skills will improve as the themes, topics, and language become more complex. In addition your understanding of the rich cultures in the Spanish-speaking world will increase as you explore the culture topics in each chapter. In Spanish 3 we are going to use the Realidades 3 curriculum and you will: Review vocabulary and grammar Learn additional vocabulary and gramar Expand your listening, speaking, and writing skills Connect Spanish with science, math, history and writing skills Read about people, place and traditions from the Spanish-speaking world Read authentic short stories, poems, autobiographies, legends, and song lyrics Communicate about comtemporary topics: health, history, government, the arts and the environment. Develop a strong foundation for the study of the Spanish language and culture. Supplies Expectations Discipline: Notebook Textbook Dry erase marker Pencil and pen Colored pencils or markers Glue Stick Scissors Respect yourself, each other and me every day Be punctual and prepared for the class Participate regularly, communicate your ideas in the target language Do your best and be your best everyday Speak Spanish in class with me and your classmates First step: Verbal Warning Second step: Points Reduction Third step: Detention Fourth step: Referral Honor code: Copying a classmate’s homework, quiz or test is considered cheating. Formal Essays Expectations: Must be typed Font Size: 12 “Tildes” must be included Double spaced 100% in Spanish Oral Presentations Expectations: Full in Spanish Reading scripts will not be allowed ( guidelines accepted) Grading Policy: 15 points each week: Behavior and Class participation 5 points: Homework completion (when the teacher checks) 40-60 Points: Chapter Test (Every 2 – 3 weeks) 40-60 Points: Oral presentations, Essays 10-20 Points: Quizzes, Interviews, Socratic Circle How do you gain or lose participation points? Every week you will start owning ◌ 10 points ◌ You may obtain 5 more points by Participating in the Class: Answering Teacher’s Questions Helping other students to understand the class Asking good questions etc… You may loss them by breaking our social contract: Not Being Respectful Coming to class unprepared (without supplies) Unexcused tardy No being on task Not doing what you supposed to be doing etc….
