Alliance for Workplace Excellence announces annual award winners
May 7, 2012—The Alliance for Workplace Excellence will host its Annual Awards Luncheon on June 11,
2012, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center. Seventythree Greater Washington, D.C.-area businesses will be honored at the event, and more than 500 area
business executives are expected to attend.
The Alliance has recognized the Washington, D.C. area’s best places to work for the past thirteen years.
This year, AWE will also honor 22 Mid-Atlantic region businesses that have demonstrated their
commitment to environmental sustainability. The 73 winning companies represent more than one
million employees from organizations of all sizes and in all sectors—private, public, and nonprofit. In
2012 the Alliance is proud to recognize the:




66 companies will receive the Workplace Excellence Award
45 companies will receive the Health & Wellness Trailblazer Award
28 companies will receive the EcoLeadership Award
10 companies will be recognized as Leading Practitioners in Diversity and Inclusion
AWE will also be recognizing the 18 winning employers who are “triple winners”, recipients of the
Workplace Excellence Seal of Approval, the Health & Wellness Trailblazer Award and the EcoLeadership
Award. Debra Schwartz, VP, Human Resources, at Honest Tea embraces AWE’s recognition. “Even as
we’ve grown and expanded, Honest Tea remains dedicated to keeping a small-company, entrepreneurial
spirit. Winning these awards year after year acknowledges that we have achieved the goal that our
employees continue to be the heart and soul of our company.”
The theme for this year’s luncheon is “Workplace Excellence: What Makes an Exceptional Workplace”,
including a key note address by Dan Henry Sr., Chief Human Resources Officer at Bright Horizon.
Prior to the Award Luncheon at 10 a.m., AWE will host a Panel Discussion on Leading Practices in
Diversity and Inclusion. A panel of Diversity and Inclusion experts will discuss the leading Diversity and
Inclusion practices in the workplace today.
The AWE Networking Café will be open between 11 am. and noon, and for an hour after the luncheon
for attendees enjoy a cup of coffee and meet their colleagues and peers.
All award applicants must undergo a rigorous assessment process led by an independent review panel of
professors, PhD professionals, and doctoral candidates in business, industrial and organizational
psychology, and human resources.
