Messiah!
Seed of David?

Muslims respect, honor and revere
Jesus and all the prophets in Bible
Qur’an mentions Jesus
as the Messiah
At the time of Jesus
JEWS WERE WAITING FOR THREE
PERSONS TO APPEAR
John denied to be any of the three
• [19] And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent
priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art
thou?
[20] And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am
not the Christ.
[21] And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And
he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he
answered, No.
[22] Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may
give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of
thyself?
[23] He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness,
Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet
Esaias. John 1

Jesus: Elias/Elijah had already come
• [11] And they asked him, saying, Why say the
scribes that Elias must first come?
• [12] And he answered and told them, Elias verily
cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it
is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer
many things, and be set at nought.
• [13] But I say unto you, That Elias is indeed come,
and they have done unto him whatsoever they
listed, as it is written of him. Mark 9
5
Disciples: John, the Baptist, was Elias
And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say
the scribes that Elias must first come?
And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly
shall first come, and restore all things.
But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and
they knew him not, but have done unto him
whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son
of man suffer of them.
Then the disciples understood that he spake unto
them of John the Baptist. Matt 17:10-13
6
Elijah in heaven
And it came to pass, as they still went on,
and talked, that, behold,
there appeared a chariot of fire,
and horses of fire,
and parted them both asunder;
and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
2 Kings 2:11
7
Elijah himself was to come back
Behold,
I will send you Elijah the prophet
before the coming of
the great and dreadful day of the LORD:
Malachi 4:6
8
Elijah/John
• John was born on earth and had not
descended from heaven
• If John were Elijah who was to come from the
heaven then Christianity sets a precedence:
– Going to heaven is symbolic
– Second coming of a previous person is coming of a
person like him
• But the Jews are not convinced to-date

Islam accepts Jesus as
THE MESSIAH
Joseph was seed of David but
Jesus was biological son of Mary and not of Joseph
[1] The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
[2] Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judas and his brethren;
[3] And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram;
[4] And Aram begat Aminadab; and Aminadab begat Naasson; and Naasson begat Salmon;
[5] And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse;
[6] And Jesse begat David the king; and David the king begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias;
[7] And Solomon begat Roboam; and Roboam begat Abia; and Abia begat Asa;
[8] And Asa begat Josaphat; and Josaphat begat Joram; and Joram begat Ozias;
[9] And Ozias begat Joatham; and Joatham begat Achaz; and Achaz begat Ezekias;
[10] And Ezekias begat Manasses; and Manasses begat Amon; and Amon begat Josias;
[11] And Josias begat Jechonias and his brethren, about the time they were carried away to Babylon:
[12] And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel; and Salathiel begat Zorobabel;
[13] And Zorobabel begat Abiud; and Abiud begat Eliakim; and Eliakim begat Azor;
[14] And Azor begat Sadoc; and Sadoc begat Achim; and Achim begat Eliud;
[15] And Eliud begat Eleazar; and Eleazar begat Matthan; and Matthan begat Jacob;
[16] And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
[17] So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying
away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are
fourteen generations.
12
Joseph was seed of David but
Jesus was biological son of Mary and not of Joseph
[18] Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was
espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the
Holy Ghost.
[19] Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick
example, was minded to put her away privily.
[20] But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared
unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee
Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
[21] And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall
save his people from their sins.
[22] Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by
the prophet, saying,
[23] Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call
his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
[24] Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him,
and took unto him his wife:
[25] And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his
name JESUS. Matt 1

Jews and the Truth of Jesus
• [22] And if a man have committed a sin worthy of
death, and he be to be put to death, and thou hang
him on a tree:
• [23] His body shall not remain all night upon the tree,
but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day; (for he
that is hanged is accursed of God;) that thy land be not
defiled, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an
inheritance. Deut 21
• [13] Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law,
being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is
every one that hangeth on a tree: Gal 3
14
Messiah/Jesus
• Jesus was born without father
• According to predominant Christian belief, he
died on the cross
• So the Jews are not convinced to-date of his
heavenly status
15

Prophecies about
THAT PROPHET
Moses Prophesied
a Prophet from Arabia/Ishmaelites
And he said,
the Lord came from Sinai,
and rose up from Seir unto them;
he shined forth from mount Paran
and he came with ten thousands of saints: from
his right hand went a fiery law for them.
Deuteronomy 33:2
18
Paran, Land of Ishmaelites
And also of the son of the bondwoman will I make a nation, because he is thy seed.
And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took bread, and a bottle of water, and
gave it unto Hagar, putting it on her shoulder, and the child, and sent her away: and
she departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Beer-sheba.
And the water was spent in the bottle, and she cast the child under one of the shrubs.
And she went, and sat her down over against him a good way off, as it were a
bowshot: for she said, Let me not see the death of the child. And she sat over against
him, and lift up her voice, and wept.
And God heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of God called Hagar out of heaven,
and said unto her, What aileth thee, Hagar? fear not; for God hath heard the voice of
the lad where he is.
Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him in thine hand; for I will make him a great nation.
And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled the
bottle with water, and gave the lad drink.
And God was with the lad; and he grew, and dwelt in the wilderness, and became an
archer.
And he dwelt in the wilderness of Paran: and his mother took him a wife out of the
land of Egypt. Gen 21:13-21
19
Prince of the World
Hereafter I will not talk much with you:
for the prince of this world cometh,
and hath nothing in me.
John 14:30
20
Comforter
• [16] And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you
another Comforter, that he may abide with you for
ever;
• [17] Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot
receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth
him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and
shall be in you.
• [18] I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
• [26] But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom
the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all
things, and bring all things to your remembrance,
whatsoever I have said unto you. John 14
21
Comforter
• [26] But when the Comforter is come, whom I
will send unto you from the Father, even the
Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the
Father, he shall testify of me:
• [27] And ye also shall bear witness, because
ye have been with me from the beginning.
John 15:26-27
22
Comforter
• [7] Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is
expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not
away, the Comforter will not come unto you;
but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
• [8] And when he is come, he will reprove the
world of sin, and of righteousness, and of
judgment: John 16
23
“That Prophet” will come
before the Second Coming of Jesus
• [35] Behold, your house is left unto you desolate:
and verily I say unto you, Ye shall not see me,
until the time come when ye shall say, Blessed is
he that cometh in the name of the Lord. Luke 13
• [38] Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.
• [39] For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me
henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that
cometh in the name of the Lord. Matt 23:38-39
24
Jesus will not come again
before the advent of “that prophet”
• [20] And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was
preached unto you:
• [21] Whom the heaven must receive until the times of
restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the
mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.
• [22] For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet
shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your
brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things
whatsoever he shall say unto you.
• [23] And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which
will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from
among the people. Acts 3
25
Prophecy by Jesus
I have yet many things to say unto you,
but ye cannot bear them now.
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth,
is come, he will guide you into all truth:
for he shall not speak of himself;
but whatsoever he shall hear,
that shall he speak:
and he will shew you things to come.
John 16:12-13
26
The Corner Stone
• [42] Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in
the scriptures, The stone which the builders
rejected, the same is become the head of the
corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is
marvellous in our eyes?
• [43] Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of
God shall be taken from you, and given to a
nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.
• [44] And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall
be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will
grind him to powder. Matt 21:42-44
27
Perfect
• [8] Charity never faileth: but whether there be
prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be
tongues, they shall cease; whether there be
knowledge, it shall vanish away.
• [9] For we know in part, and we prophesy in
part.
• [10] But when that which is perfect is come,
then that which is in part shall be done away.
1 Cor 13
28
Parable of the Garden
• [33] Hear another parable: There was a certain householder, which
planted a vineyard, and hedged it round about, and digged a winepress in
it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far
country:
• [34] And when the time of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the
husbandmen, that they might receive the fruits of it.
• [35] And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed
another, and stoned another.
• [36] Again, he sent other servants more than the first: and they did unto
them likewise.
• [37] But last of all he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence
my son.
• [38] But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves,
This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance.
• [39] And they caught him, and cast him out of the vineyard, and slew him.
• [40] When the lord therefore of the vineyard cometh, what will he do unto
those husbandmen?
• [41] They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and
will let out his vineyard unto other husbandmen, which shall render him
the fruits in their seasons. Matt 21:33-41

Muhammad Testified to the Truth of
both John and Jesus
• Islam presents Jesus as a non-mythical and
fairly acceptable traditional prophet
• God heard his prayers and saved him from
accursed death on the cross
• He lived a long life of 120 and garnered
respect and eminence during his lifetime
30
Holy Qur’an About John
• [3:40] ... noble and chaste and a Prophet, from
among the righteous
• [19:13] ... We gave him wisdom while yet a child,
• [19:14] And tenderness of heart from Ourself,
and purity. And he was pious
• [19:15] And dutiful toward his parents. And he
was not haughty and rebellious.
• [19:16] And peace was on him the day he was
born, and the day he died, and peace there will
be on him the day he will be raised up to life
again.

Holy Qur’an About Jesus
• ... to Jesus, son of Mary, We gave manifest Signs, and
strengthened him with the Spirit of holiness... 2:88
• ... We gave Jesus, son of Mary, clear proofs and
strengthened him with the Spirit of holiness... 2:254
• When the angels said, ‘O Mary, Allah gives thee glad tidings
of a word from Him; his name shall be the Messiah, Jesus,
son of Mary, honoured in this world and in the next, and of
those who are granted nearness to God; 3:46
• [3:47] ‘And he shall speak to the people in the cradle and
when of middle age, and he shall be of the righteous.’
• When Allah said, ‘O Jesus, I will cause thee to die a natural
death and will exalt thee to Myself, and will clear thee from
the charges of those who disbelieve, and will place those
who follow thee above those who disbelieve, until the Day
of Resurrection; then to Me shall be your return, and I will
judge between you concerning that wherein you differ. 3:56
32
Jesus, Son of Mary
O People of the Book, exceed not the limits in your
religion, and say not of Allah anything but the truth.
Verily, the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, was only a
Messenger of Allah and a fulfilment of His word
which He sent down to Mary, and a mercy from
Him. So believe in Allah and His Messengers, and
say not ‘They are three.’ Desist, it will be better for
you. Verily, Allah is the only One God. Far is it from
His Holiness that He should have a son. To Him
belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is
in the earth. And sufficient is Allah as a Guardian.
4:172
33
Jesus, Son of Mary
When Allah will say, “O Jesus, son of Mary, remember My
favour upon thee and upon thy mother; when I strengthened
thee with the Spirit of holiness so that thou didst speak to the
people in the cradle and in middle age; and when I taught
thee the Book and Wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel; and
when thou didst fashion a creation out of clay, in the likeness
of a bird, by My command; then thou didst breathe into it a
new spirit and it became a soaring being by My command;
and thou didst heal the night-blind and the leprous by My
command; and when thou didst raise the dead by My
command; and when I restrained the children of Israel from
putting thee to death when thou didst come to them with
clear Signs; and those who disbelieved from among them said,
‘This is nothing but clear deception.’” 5:111

Conclusion
• Islam authenticates Christianity
• Muhammad testified for Jesus as prophesied by
Jesus
• Belief on Bible and Jesus is incomplete without
accepting “that prophet” who fulfilled the
prophecies of the Bible.
• Every good Christian owes it to his faith in Bible
to come forward and accept “that prophet” who
fulfilled the prophecies of the Bible.

impossible unto you.
• Lu:17:6: And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a

On
SECOND COMING
No one will descend from heaven ...
“Remember, that no one will descend from heaven.
All our opponents who are alive today will die and no one will see
Jesus Son of Mary descending from heaven. Then their next generation
will pass away and no one of them will see this spectacle. Then
generation next after that will pass away without seeing the Son of
Mary descending from heaven. Then God will make them anxious that
though the time of the supremacy of the cross had passed away and
the world had undergone great changes, yet the son of Mary has not
descended from heaven. Then the wise people will suddenly discard
this belief.
The third century after today will not yet have come to a close when
those who hold this belief, weather Muslims or Christians, will lose all
hope and will give up this belief in disgust. There will then be one
religion that will prevail in the world and only one leader.
I have come only to sow the seed, which has been sown by my hand.
Now it will sprout and grow and flourish, and no one can arrest its
growth.”

1290 Days
• 11] And from the time that the daily sacrifice
shall be taken away, and the abomination that
maketh desolate set up, there shall be a
thousand two hundred and ninety days.
[12] Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to
the thousand three hundred and five and
thirty days.
[13] But go thou thy way till the end be: for
thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end
of the days. Dan 12

Prophecy concerning interfaith
relations
• 5:83. Thou shalt certainly find the Jews and
those who associate partners with Allah to be
the most vehement of men in enmity against
the believers. And thou shalt assuredly find
those who say, `We are Christians,' to be the
nearest of them in friendship to the believers.
That is because among them are savants and
monks and because they are not arrogant.
Islam on Salvation
Surely, the Believers, and the Jews, and the Christians and
the Sabians — whichever party from among these
truly believes in Allah and the Last Day and does good
deeds — shall have their reward with their Lord, and no
fear shall come upon them, nor shall they grieve.
Guidance given to all nations
And those who disbelieve say, ‘Wherefore has not a Sign been
sent down to him from his Lord?’ Thou art, surely, a Warner.
And there is a Guide for every people. (13[al-Ra‘d]:8)
Verily, We have sent thee with the truth, as a bearer of glad
tidings and as a Warner; and there is no people to whom a
Warner has not been sent. (35[al-Fatir]:25)
Established Religions
Should be Respected
Of all the principles to which I have been made to adhere
firmly, there is one that has specifically been revealed to me
by God Himself.
That principle is to desist from declaring false in essence, such
religions as have been revealed by God through His prophets
and which have the following characteristics.
They have met with wide acceptance in certain regions of the
world; having survived all challenges, they have become well
established and deeply rooted.
Having stood the test of time for long, they have acquired a
measure of age and an air of permanence.
According to this principle, such religions are essentially true
and their founders were most certainly true prophets of God.
(Tohfa Qaisariya: Roohani Khazain Vol. 12, p 256)
A Peace Giving principal
This is a most attractive and peace giving principle
which provides the basis for reconciliation amongst
nations and promotes better moral conduct. This
principle. teaches us to believe in the truth of all
prophets wherever they might have appeared; in
India, Persia or China or any other country and for
whom God has filled the hearts of millions of
people with awe and deep respect and has caused
their religions to be firmly rooted. (Tohfa Qaisariya:
Roohani Khazain Vol. 12, p 259)

Prophet Like Moses
The Lord thy God will raise up unto thee
a Prophet from the midst of thee,
of thy brethren, like unto me;
unto him ye shall hearken.
Deuteronomy 18:15
Prophet Like Moses
“I will raise them up a Prophet from among their
brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in
his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I
shall command him.
And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not
hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my
name, I will require it of him.
But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a
word in my name, which I have not commanded
him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of
other gods, even that prophet shall die.”
(Deuteronomy 18:18-20)

Wonderful Counseller
• [6] For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is
given: and the government shall be upon his
shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful,
Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting
Father, The Prince of Peace.
• [7] Of the increase of his government and peace
there shall be no end, upon the throne of David,
and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to
establish it with judgment and with justice from
henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of
hosts will perform this. Isaiah 9
Mention in the New Testament
[22] For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A
prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto
you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall
ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say
unto you.
[23] And it shall come to pass, that every soul,
which will not hear that prophet, shall be
destroyed from among the people.

Prophecy by Isaiah
[1] Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I
have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.
[2] He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street.
[3] A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he
shall bring forth judgment unto truth.
[4] He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and
the isles shall wait for his law.
[5] Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them
out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that
giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein:
[6] I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will
keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the
Gentiles;
[7] To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them
that sit in darkness out of the prison house.
[8] I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither
my praise to graven images.

Prophecy by Isaiah
[9] Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare:
before they spring forth I tell you of them.
[10] Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth, ye
that go down to the sea, and all that is therein; the isles, and the inhabitants
thereof.
[11] Let the wilderness and the cities thereof lift up their voice, the villages that
Kedar doth inhabit: let the inhabitants of the rock sing, let them shout from the

make the rivers islands, and I will dry up the pools.

Jesus, son of Mary: Messiah
• They have indeed disbelieved who say, ‘Surely,
Allah is none but the Messiah, son of Mary.’
Say, ‘Who then has any power against Allah, if
He desire to bring to naught the Messiah, son
of Mary, and his mother and all those that are
in the earth?’ And to Allah belongs the

Fate of a False Prophet
• [20] But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a
word in my name, which I have not commanded him to
speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods,
even that prophet shall die. Deut 18
• [5] And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall
be put to death; because he hath spoken to turn you
away from the LORD your God, which brought you out
of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the
house of bondage, to thrust thee out of the way which
the LORD thy God commanded thee to walk in. So shalt
thou put the evil away from the midst of thee. Deut 5
Fate of a False Prophet
• [14] Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy
lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I
commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy
unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of
nought, and the deceit of their heart.
• [15] Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the prophets
that prophesy in my name, and I sent them not, yet they
say, Sword and famine shall not be in this land; By sword
and famine shall those prophets be consumed.
• [16] And the people to whom they prophesy shall be cast
out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and
the sword; and they shall have none to bury them, them,
their wives, nor their sons, nor their daughters: for I will
pour their wickedness upon them. Jer 14
Fate of a False Prophet

divine lies: they shall not be in the assembly of my people, neither shall
they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither shall they
enter into the land of Israel; and ye shall know that I am the Lord GOD.
• [10] Because, even because they have seduced my people, saying, Peace;
and there was no peace; and one built up a wall, and, lo, others daubed it
with untempered morter:
• [11] Say unto them which daub it with untempered morter, that it shall
fall: there shall be an overflowing shower; and ye, O great hailstones, shall
fall; and a stormy wind shall rend it.
• [12] Lo, when the wall is fallen, shall it not be said unto you, Where is the
daubing wherewith ye have daubed it?
• [13] Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; I will even rend it with a stormy
wind in my fury; and there shall be an overflowing shower in mine anger,
and great hailstones in my fury to consume it. Ezek 13

ADVENT OF THAT PROPHET:
MUHAMMAD
Waraqa bn Naufal
• First revelation at age 40 on Mt Hira.
• Meets Waraqa bin Naufal.
Waraqa bn Naufal
•
3: Narrated 'Aisha:the mother of the faithful believers) The commencement of the Divine Inspiration to
Allah's Apostle was in the form of good dreams which came true like bright day light, and then the love of
seclusion was bestowed upon him. He used to go in seclusion in the cave of Hira where he used to worship
(Allah alone) continuously for many days before his desire to see his family. He used to take with him the
journey food for the stay and then come back to (his wife) Khadija to take his food like-wise again till
suddenly the Truth descended upon him while he was in the cave of Hira. The angel came to him and
asked him to read. The Prophet replied, "I do not know how to read.
•
The Prophet added, "The angel caught me (forcefully) and pressed me so hard that I could not bear it any
more. He then released me and again asked me to read and I replied, 'I do not know how to read.'
Thereupon he caught me again and pressed me a second time till I could not bear it any more. He then
released me and again asked me to read but again I replied, 'I do not know how to read (or what shall I
read)?' Thereupon he caught me for the third time and pressed me, and then released me and said, 'Read
in the name of your Lord, who has created (all that exists) has created man from a clot. Read! And your
Lord is the Most Generous." (96.1, 96.2, 96.3) Then Allah's Apostle returned with the Inspiration and with
his heart beating severely. Then he went to Khadija bint Khuwailid and said, "Cover me! Cover me!" They
covered him till his fear was over and after that he told her everything that had happened and said, "I fear
that something may happen to me." Khadija replied, "Never! By Allah, Allah will never disgrace you. You
keep good relations with your Kith and kin, help the poor and the destitute, serve your guests generously
and assist the deserving calamity-afflicted ones."
Waraqa
• Khadija then accompanied him to her cousin
Waraqa bin Naufal bin Asad bin 'Abdul 'Uzza,
who, during the Pre-Islamic Period became a
Christian and used to write the writing with
Hebrew letters. He would write from the
Gospel in Hebrew as much as Allah wished
him to write. He was an old man and had lost
his eyesight.
Waraqa bn Naufal
• Khadija said to Waraqa, "Listen to the story of your
nephew, O my cousin!"
• Waraqa asked, "O my nephew! What have you
seen?"
• Allah's Apostle described whatever he had seen.
• Waraqa said, "This is the same one who keeps the
secrets (angel Gabriel) whom Allah had sent to
Moses. I wish I were young and could live up to the
time when your people would turn you out."
Waraqa
• Allah's Apostle asked, "Will they drive me
out?"
• Waraqa replied in the affirmative and said,
"Anyone (man) who came with something
similar to what you have brought was treated
with hostility; and if I should remain alive till
the day when you will be turned out then I
would support you strongly."
Waraqa bn Naufal
• But after a few days Waraqa died and the Divine Inspiration was also
paused for a while.
Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah Al-Ansari while talking about the period of
pause in revelation reporting the speech of the Prophet "While I was
walking, all of a sudden I heard a voice from the sky. I looked up and saw
the same angel who had visited me at the cave of Hira' sitting on a chair
between the sky and the earth. I got afraid of him and came back home
and said, 'Wrap me (in blankets).' And then Allah revealed the following
Holy Verses (of Quran):
'O you (i.e. Muhammad)! wrapped up in garments!' Arise and warn (the
people against Allah's Punishment),... up to 'and desert the idols.' (74.1-5)
After this the revelation started coming strongly, frequently and regularly."

Heraclius
• Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Abbas:
• Abu Sufyan bin Harb informed me that Heraclius had sent a
messenger to him while he had been accompanying a caravan
from Quraish. They were merchants doing business in Sham
(Syria, Palestine, Lebanon and Jordan), at the time when
Allah's Apostle had truce with Abu Sufyan and Quraish
infidels. So Abu Sufyan and his companions went to Heraclius
at Ilya (Jerusalem). Heraclius called them in the court and he
had all the senior Roman dignitaries around him. He called for
his translator who, translating Heraclius's question said to
them, "Who amongst you is closely related to that man who
claims to be a Prophet?" Abu Sufyan replied, "I am the
nearest relative to him (amongst the group)."
Heraclius
• Heraclius said, "Bring him (Abu Sufyan) close to me
and make his companions stand behind him." Abu
Sufyan added, Heraclius told his translator to tell my
companions that he wanted to put some questions
to me regarding that man (The Prophet) and that if I
told a lie they (my companions) should contradict
me." Abu Sufyan added, "By Allah! Had I not been
afraid of my companions labeling me a liar, I would
not have spoken the truth about the Prophet.
Heraclius
• The first question he asked me about him was:
• 'What is his family status amongst you?'
• I replied, 'He belongs to a good (noble) family
amongst us.'
• Heraclius further asked, 'Has anybody amongst you
ever claimed the same (i.e. to be a Prophet) before
him?' 2
• I replied, 'No.'
• He said, 'Was anybody amongst his ancestors a king?'
• I replied, 'No.' 3
Heraclius
• Heraclius asked, 'Do the nobles or the poor
follow him?'
• I replied, 'It is the poor who follow him.' 4
• He said, 'Are his followers increasing
decreasing (day by day)?'
• I replied, 'They are increasing.' 5
Heraclius
• He then asked, 'Does anybody amongst those
who embrace his religion become displeased
and renounce the religion afterwards?'
• I replied, 'No.' 6
• Heraclius said, 'Have you ever accused him of
telling lies before his claim (to be a Prophet)?'
• I replied, 'No. ' 7
Heraclius
• Heraclius said, 'Does he break his promises?'
• I replied, 'No. We are at truce with him but we
do not know what he will do in it.' I could not
find opportunity to say anything against him
except that. 8
• Heraclius asked, 'Have you ever had a war
with him?'
• I replied, 'Yes.'
Heraclius
• Then he said, 'What was the outcome of the battles?'
• I replied, 'Sometimes he was victorious and
sometimes we.' 10
• Heraclius said, 'What does he order you to do?'
• I said, 'He tells us to worship Allah and Allah alone
and not to worship anything along with Him, and to
renounce all that our ancestors had said. He orders
us to pray, to speak the truth, to be chaste and to
keep good relations with our Kith and kin.' 11
Heraclius
• Heraclius asked the translator to convey to me
the following, I asked you about his family and
your reply was that he belonged to a very
noble family. In fact all the Apostles come
from noble families amongst their respective
peoples.
Heraclius
• I questioned you whether anybody else
amongst you claimed such a thing, your reply
was in the negative. If the answer had been in
the affirmative, I would have thought that this
man was following the previous man's
statement.
Heraclius
• Then I asked you whether anyone of his
ancestors was a king. Your reply was in the
negative, and if it had been in the affirmative,
I would have thought that this man wanted to
take back his ancestral kingdom.
Heraclius
• I further asked whether he was ever accused of
telling lies before he said what he said, and your
reply was in the negative. So I wondered how a
person who does not tell a lie about others could
ever tell a lie about Allah.
• I, then asked you whether the rich people followed
him or the poor. You replied that it was the poor who
followed him. And in fact all the Apostles have been
followed by this very class of people.
Heraclius
• Then I asked you whether his followers were
increasing or decreasing. You replied that they were
increasing, and in fact this is the way of true faith, till
it is complete in all respects.
• I further asked you whether there was anybody, who,
after embracing his religion, became displeased and
discarded his religion. Your reply was in the negative,
and in fact this is (the sign of) true faith, when its
delight enters the hearts and mixes with them
completely.
• I asked you whether he had ever betrayed. You
replied in the negative and likewise the Apostles
never betray.
Heraclius
• Then I asked you what he ordered you to do. You
replied that he ordered you to worship Allah and
Allah alone and not to worship any thing along with
Him and forbade you to worship idols and ordered
you to pray, to speak the truth and to be chaste. If
what you have said is true, he will very soon occupy
this place underneath my feet and I knew it (from
the scriptures) that he was going to appear but I did
not know that he would be from you, and if I could
reach him definitely, I would go immediately to meet
him and if I were with him, I would certainly wash his
feet.'
Heraclius
• Heraclius then asked for the letter addressed by Allah's
Apostle which was delivered by Dihya to the Governor of
Busra, who forwarded it to Heraclius to read. The contents of
the letter were as follows: "In the name of Allah the
Beneficent, the Merciful (This letter is) from Muhammad the
slave of Allah and His Apostle to Heraclius the ruler of
Byzantine. Peace be upon him, who follows the right path.
Furthermore I invite you to Islam, and if you become a Muslim
you will be safe, and Allah will double your reward, and if you
reject this invitation of Islam you will be committing a sin by
misguiding your Arisiyin (peasants). (And I recite to you Allah's
Statement:)
Heraclius
• 'O people of the scripture! Come to a word
common to you and us that we worship none
but Allah and that we associate nothing in
worship with Him, and that none of us shall
take others as Lords beside Allah. Then, if they
turn away, say: Bear witness that we are
Muslims (those who have surrendered to
Allah).' (3:64).
Heraclius
• Abu Sufyan then added, "When Heraclius had
finished his speech and had read the letter, there
was a great hue and cry in the Royal Court. So we
were turned out of the court. I told my companions
that the question of Ibn-Abi-Kabsha) (the Prophet
Muhammad) has become so prominent that even
the King of Bani Al-Asfar (Byzantine) is afraid of him.
Then I started to become sure that he (the Prophet)
would be the conqueror in the near future till I
embraced Islam (i.e. Allah guided me to it)."
Heraclius
• The sub narrator adds, "Ibn An-Natur was the Governor of
llya' (Jerusalem) and Heraclius was the head of the Christians
of Sham. Ibn An-Natur narrates that once while Heraclius was
visiting ilya' (Jerusalem), he got up in the morning with a sad
mood. Some of his priests asked him why he was in that
mood? Heraclius was a foreteller and an astrologer. He
replied, 'At night when I looked at the stars, I saw that the
leader of those who practice circumcision had appeared
(become the conqueror). Who are they who practice
circumcision?' The people replied, 'Except the Jews nobody
practices circumcision, so you should not be afraid of them
(Jews).
• 'Just Issue orders to kill every Jew present in the country.'
Heraclius
• While they were discussing it, a messenger sent by
the king of Ghassan to convey the news of Allah's
Apostle to Heraclius was brought in. Having heard
the news, he (Heraclius) ordered the people to go
and see whether the messenger of Ghassan was
circumcised. The people, after seeing him, told
Heraclius that he was circumcised. Heraclius then
asked him about the Arabs. The messenger replied,
'Arabs also practice circumcision.'
Heraclius
• (After hearing that) Heraclius remarked that
sovereignty of the 'Arabs had appeared. Heraclius
then wrote a letter to his friend in Rome who was as
good as Heraclius in knowledge. Heraclius then left
for Homs. (a town in Syrian and stayed there till he
received the reply of his letter from his friend who
agreed with him in his opinion about the emergence
of the Prophet and the fact that he was a Prophet.
On that Heraclius invited all the heads of the
Byzantines to assemble in his palace at Homs. When
they assembled, he ordered that all the doors of his
palace be closed. Then he came out and said, 'O
Byzantines! If success is your desire and if you seek
right guidance and want your empire to remain then
give a pledge of allegiance to this Prophet (i.e.
embrace Islam).'
Heraclius
• (On hearing the views of Heraclius) the people ran towards
the gates of the palace like onagers but found the doors
closed. Heraclius realized their hatred towards Islam and
when he lost the hope of their embracing Islam, he ordered
that they should be brought back in audience.
• (When they returned) he said, 'What already said was just to
test the strength of your conviction and I have seen it.' The
people prostrated before him and became pleased with him,
and this was the end of Heraclius's story (in connection with
his faith).
