Spanish II (Rhetoric II)
Semester Exam Study Guide (Spring 2011)
Exam Scope:
This exam will cover Chapters 2A through Chapter 6B of Libro 2, with a focus on the
vocabulary of Chapters 6A and 6B. Knowledge of grammar and basic vocabulary from
Spanish II (first semester) and Spanish I is also assumed.
Exam Structure:
- Speaking section: Ten minutes in Spanish conversation with your teacher on the
topic of your choice. You should tell a story of some kind and ‘carry’ the
conversation with minimal aid from the teacher. Base the conversation topic on
one of the chapter topics below:
6A: Sports, competitions, and television
6B: Movies, plots, characters, and opinions about movies
The following aspects of the conversation will be evaluated:
Ability to communicate a story with a beginning, middle, and end.
Pronunciation & fluency (aka word flow)
Ability to match gender and number of nouns with articles,
adjectives, etc.
Ability to conjugate verbs with correct person and number
Ability to wield verb tenses correctly (esp. imperfect vs. preterite)
Ability to use verbs like gustar correctly

Reading section: Based on either Chapter 6A or 6B, this section will consist of a
short passage to read and some comprehension questions based on the passage.

Writing section: In this section, you will be prompted to write a paragraph of
medium length on one of the chapter topics (6A or 6B).

Grammar section: This section will test your knowledge of Spanish grammar and
your attention to detail regarding the Spanish language—and will deal specifically
with the grammar from Chapters 6A and 6B – with additional material from other
chapters, all of which is listed below:
o 6A: “se” verbs (to become ______), preterite of –ir stem changing verbs
o 6B: the present perfect, past participles, irregular past participles

3A: Preterite of ir, ser, tener, estar, poder
4A: Regular and irregular imperfect
4B: Imperfect vs. Preterite
5B: Irregular preterits
