Weekly Reflections
“HIS WORD TODAY” by Rev. William J. Reilly
OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE
November 22, 2013
“Jesus Christ is the faithful witness, the
firstborn of the dead and ruler of the kings of the
earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from
our sins by his blood, who has made us into a
kingdom, priests for his God and Father, to him be
glory and power forever and ever. Amen…Jesus
answered ‘my kingdom does not belong to this
world.’”
We bring the church’s year of grace to a close, as
we proclaim who Jesus is for us all. Celebrating this great
feast, may we pause for a moment and ask, ‘How often do
I pray the words of Jesus, ‘Thy kingdom come?’ What do
they mean to me?
Please save the date: December
19, 2015 for our ANNUAL ADVENT
MUSIC PROGRAM. This will feature BOTH
CHOIRS and will be held at 3:00 pm in the Church, with a
reception to follow in the Rectory All Purpose Room.
How often I have listened to the parables which
begin with the words ‘The kingdom of heaven is like’ or
‘The kingdom of God is like’. Jesus is speaking of our
church, the place where grace flows, blessings pour out and
Jesus is at the center. Our celebration today allows us to
refocus and make sure that He is what we proclaim in
reality, that He is the one from whom we receive the love
and freedom of which Revelation speaks. As we direct our
attention on Him, we repeat the words of praise above, and
express gratitude for the kingdom, the church, to which we
belong, live, move and have our being.
We are looking for someone to videotape the
program and if anyone is interested in doing this please see
Stephanie Hendry.

Attention All Ministers...from Travis Hubert
The Lector Workbooks have arrived, and can
be picked up in the Sacristy. I have begun taking
names for Christmas and New Year's signups. I know this is
a little early, but I'm trying to avoid issues that we had last
year. There are numerous ways to sign up, email,
phone, our website, or signing your name to the posted
sheets. You can contact me at my email
travis_hubert@yahoo.com.
A BIG THANK YOU!
Thank you to all of you, our great parishioners of
Sacred Heart, who so graciously donated desserts and
paper products to Fr. Nelson’s 40th anniversary party. You
are so generous!! Holy Rosary was expecting 200 to
attend and it was closer to 350 and we still had more than
enough. God bless you for all that you do. THANK YOU to
John Wiggins, Youth Ministry, and the Evangelization
Ministry for providing the bulk of the supplies. A very
special thank-you goes out to our workers, Bonnie, Lisa,
Anna, Alice & Jim — you are always so giving of your time
and I could not do anything without you. God bless you
all! ~~ Nancy
For well over a century, the Catholic Church in
New Jersey has provided adoption services. Throughout
all those years, the Church promised to honor the
privacy of birth parents and adoptees. That promise of
privacy also was assured by law and affirmed by the
State Superior Court. Those promises can no longer be
kept. On May 27, 2014, a new law took effect that will
allow adoptees and certain relatives to request and
obtain the names of their biological parents beginning
January 1, 2017.
Any birth parents who wish to preserve their
privacy must submit a Redaction Request Form to the
New Jersey Department of Health no later than
December 31, 2016. By filing this form, birth parents will
be able to keep their names off any documents provided
by the State to adoptees or anyone else. The State
made the Redaction Request Form public on August 3,
2015. The form can be downloaded at
http://nj.gov/health/forms/reg-36c.pdf
If you know a person who placed a child in
adoption, please tell them that if they do not file a
Redaction Request Form, their name and other
information could be given to the adoptee. Anyone
needing assistance can call a HELPLINE AT 609-9894809.
OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST KING OF THE
UNIVERSE
First Reading: Daniel 7:13-14
Daniel describes the one who will appear on the clouds of
heaven and receive glory. People of every language will serve
this one, and his leadership and community will be his forever.
Second Reading: Revelation 1:5-8
Jesus is so powerful, he is the ruler of kings. He loved us
enough to free us from sin, and so he will be glorified forever.
He will appear again and be seen by all the people of the
earth. God calls himself the first and last, "the One who is and
who was and who is to come," reminding all people that God
will remain with us always.
Gospel: John 18:33b-37
Pilate asks Jesus if he is a king. Jesus explains that his
kingdom is not of this world. Pilate asks again if Jesus is a
king, to which he replies, "I came into the world to testify to
the truth. Anyone committed to the truth hears my voice.”
Living with Alzheimer’s Disease for the
Caregiver: Late Stage

6:00-8:00 pm.
This program covers how to address the physical,
emotional, and spiritual needs of the person with late-stage
Alzheimer’s disease through care, communication,

Exciting news!
The Diocesan Children's Choir will continue this
year. These young people will join the regular Diocesan
Choir this December 6th for the Christmas Concert and
have this springboard into the NYC Pueri Cantores Festival
in April as well as the Diocesan Celebration for First
Communicants with Bishop Serratelli next May.
Children in grades 4-8 are welcome to participate.
There will be 4 rehearsals for the Christmas Concert,
(listed at www.patersondiocese.org/choir). Children need
not be part of a school or parish choir and even 1 child
from a parish or school is encouraged to participate as
together from the Diocese they will become many! Music
will be provided and there is no registration charge. All
rehearsals and the Christmas Concert will be at St. Peter
the Apostle in Parsippany.
For questions and/or to register your child,
please contact Mrs. Stephanie Hendry, our Music
Minister, after the weekend Masses.
This will create a wonderful experience for our
young people!

Market Street Mission (with Helping Hands)
Sacred Heart has once again been asked to help make Christmas at the
Market Street Mission a joyous occasion.
At Christmas the Mission collects donations for their Men’s Christmas Bags. They
work hard to make the men feel like they are a part of the Mission family and one way
they do this is by distributing gifts to the men at their Christmas Chapel on Christmas Eve.
These are some of the items the men would like: flannel shirts, thermal
underwear, t-shirts, Flannel PJs…etc. If you are going to make a donation of the
needed items, Helping Hands Ministry will deliver them for the Parish. We will
place a box to deposit at the foot of the alter for the next 2 weeks.(11/28-29 and
12/5-6) Please call Market Street Mission for sizes still needed (973-993-2871).
