Outline “The Presidency,” using the key word outline for reference materials. Use 3 themes,
with 4-6 details/theme and 3-5 key words/detail.
Summarize the information in your outline, using one paragraph for each theme in your
outline. Include all the details from each theme in that paragraph. Include a strong final
clincher sentence, and draw your title from that.
Style: Use 3 “ly,” 3 quality adjectives, 3 who/which” clauses, 3 strong verbs, 3 “because”
Clauses, and 3 “when/while/where/as/if/although/since clauses. Underline these dressups.

Finish your novel this week.
Discussion Questions: (be ready to discuss these in class)
1) Describe the Romantic era of American literature and art.
2) How does your chosen American novel fit into this period of American literature?
What elements of life from this time period do you see in your novel? Describe the
attitudes and events in your novel and relate them to the historical events and attitudes
of this era.
3) What advancements were made in science & industry? How did these change
American life?
Essay: Based on your readings from your history textbook and novel, and any additional research, write
a 600-700 word essay on one of the following topics (if you are reading a novel, you must
report on that novel) –
How did advancements in agriculture, industry, transportation, and communication change American life
in the first half of the 19th century? Use specifics and contrast advancement with the way these same
tasks were done in the 18th century.
Write a report on your novel. Include main characters, setting, conflict, a few key events, and the climax
and resolution. Be sure to include a paragraph on how this novel reflects ideas and events during its
historical period. Also include your thoughts on how this novel reflects the ideology of the time.
