The Butchart Gardens
The Butchart Gardens are located on Vancouver Island, 23 km (14 miles)
north of Victoria, and 20 km (12.5 miles) south of the Vancouver-Victoria
ferry terminal at Swartz Bay. Our street address is 800 Benvenuto Avenue in
Brentwood Bay, British Columbia.

Victoria is well-connected by sea to mainland British Columbia and Washington
State by vehicle ferries, passenger ferries and by air.
Transportation options to The Gardens
Victoria's arrival points include the Inner Harbour and the Town of Sidney and both
are approximately 20 minutes from The Butchart Gardens.
At the Victoria International Airport (YYJ) there are daily flights from Vancouver
International Airport and Seattle-Tacoma Airport, as well as flights from the rest
of Canada and the United States.
For an alternative, visitors can also utilize regular float plane and
helicopter service to Victoria's downtown Inner Harbour, and then take
one of the many bus services to The Gardens.
The Butchart Gardens is also easily accessed by boat (under 20’)
or chartered float planes at our private wharf. (Charters available
through float plane operators)

Eco-Friendly Boat Tours:
June 15 to September 15
Enjoy a 45 minute natural adventure, exploring the history and wildlife of Tod Inlet and
the local waters of Brentwood Bay on board our 12 passenger electric boats.
Night Illuminations: June 15 to September 15
Subtle, coloured lighting magically transforms the landscape at dusk.

Year Round
The Rose Carousel: The Rose Carousel is the only
carousel on Vancouver Island. The menagerie includes thirty
animals ranging from bears, to horses, to ostriches, to zebras
and mirrors the world from which The Gardens draws its visitors.

The Dining Room Restaurant**
Fall Colours:
Afternoon Tea: Served daily, noon to 3pm.
Tea at The Gardens is a fabulous addition to any visit.
Christmas
Lunch and Dinner: Served seasonally. Fine West Coast
dining featuring local ingredients and wines, and spectacular
views of The Gardens.
A stunning parade of red, russet and gold maples is joined by
arbutus and copper beech trees, along with many dozens of different varieties of
chrysanthemums.
December 1 to January 6
The Magic of Christmas:
Lights and illuminated gardens, decorations,
“12 Days of Christmas” displays, and entertainment. Skate on our 465 m2 (5,000 ft2)
open air ice rink.

The Blue Poppy Restaurant**
A self-service,
conservatory restaurant offering lunch and dinner.

A wonderful indoor floral conservatory with paths lined by flowering shrubs, trees and

The original 2405 m2 (22,000 ft2) Butchart Family Residence houses unique artifacts
tracing the development of The Gardens.

Our Spring Prelude indoor garden and our Dining

receptions and dinners.

Method of Payment
Admission is payable in advance or upon arrival by cash, traveller’s cheque,
approved company voucher, Mastercard, Visa, Discover, JCB, Diners or debit
card. Company cheques by prior arrangement only.
Operating Hours
The Gardens open every day of the year at 9am, except Christmas Day
when we open at 1pm. Visitors are welcome to remain until one hour
after the Admission Gates close. Closing times vary according to season.

During July and August we may experience heavy traffic between 11am
and 3pm. For those with a flexible itinerary, we suggest a late
afternoon arrival. Visitors can enjoy The Gardens by daylight, stop
for food and refreshments, then take in our musical entertainment,
as well as see the magic cast upon The Gardens by the Night Illuminations.

The staffed Plant Identification Centre is open Mar 15 to Oct 31.

A $10 deposit is required for Wheelchair use. Child pushcarts
and umbrellas are available on a loan basis. (limited availability)

Bicycle racks available in the main parking lot.

An outdoor ice skating rink is installed for the Christmas

All areas of The Gardens are smoke free for the public with the exception
of two designated smoking areas for the public; one in the bus lot patio
and one in the visitor car parking area.

our Family Discovery Walk. Stop by the Visitor Information Center for your
copy of the Family Discovery Walk worksheet. Kids and parents (or grandparents!) can explore The Gardens in a whole new way by discovering our
history, drawing pictures and learning lots of fun facts.
WiFi - available in The Coffee Shop
The Butchart Gardens is located near Victoria, at the
southern tip of Vancouver Island, at 800 Benvenuto Avenue,
Brentwood Bay.
Travel to Vancouver Island is easy with ferry access from
Vancouver, BC; Seattle (foot passenger only), Anacortes or
Port Angeles, WA.
The Victoria International Airport (YYJ) is only a 20 minute
drive and Victoria is a 30 minute drive.
