Dear Student Council Candidate and parent,
2013-2014
Thank you for your interest in being part of Rice Elementary’s Student Council. You have
shown interest in one of the following office positions:
President (6th)
Vice President (5th)
Secretary (5th)
Treasurer (6th)
Public Relations (5th or 6th)
You must be prepared to deliver your speech in your homeroom class Friday, November
8 . Voting will follow immediately after the speeches in the classrooms. Your speech should be
a minimum of 1 minute and inform the students of your hopes and plans for your school. You
may use visual props to make your speech more interesting, encouraging more students to vote
for you. Once students are elected as class representatives, candidates will be recorded giving
their speeches. The speeches will be presented in all classrooms, and the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade
students will be given the chance to vote for the best candidate.

Here are some guidelines to follow:
o Only you may give your speech
o You may use note cards and make eye contact with your audience as much as possible.
o Make no promises you cannot keep. DO NOT BEG!
o Do not put down other candidates.
Please remember that as a Student Council member, you must maintain academic
excellence and a sense of responsibility. Your participation in this event is reflective of your
commitment to be responsible and make Rice Elementary School the best it can be! Good luck
