Research Associate Position Available in Mechanical Metallurgy of Light Alloys Departments of Materials Engineering University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. The Department of Materials Engineering at the University of British Columbia invites applications for a full time 12 month appointment as a research associate. The initial one year term of employment may be extended for as many as two additional years depending on performance and availability of funding. The successful candidate will work under the direction of Dr. Warren Poole and will be expected to conduct sponsored research projects; conduct undergraduate teaching in the Department and assist in supervision of graduate students in Dr. Poole’s group. The successful candidate should have a PhD in Materials Engineering with experience on mechanical properties, physical metallurgy and physically modeling material processes. The candidate should have experience working with aluminum alloys or magnesium alloys. Qualifications include in-depth knowledge of mechanical testing systems, electron microscopy (TEM and EBSD), knowledge of meso-scale and state variable modeling techniques. In addition, the candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills; and have demonstrated leadership experience. The position is available effective Sept. 15, 2011.
