Summer Exams and Student Attendance: Summer 2015
(Students in Yrs12-14)
Dear Parents,
As you are aware a small number of GCSE and A-level examinations have already started with more to
come in the days and weeks ahead. With this in mind, I would like to clarify our position with regard to
attending classes and preparing for exams for our senior students, sitting public examinations, at GCSE,
AS and A-level. Enclosed is a copy of your child’s exam timetable, for your information..
We are encouraging all students to attend as many of their timetabled classes until their exams, in that
subject, have been completed; as opposed to blanket ‘study leave’. We appreciate that students will need
to balance their time in school with their actual exam timetable and their planning around revision.
Please feel free to ring Mr Butler (Year 12), Mr McKee (6th Form) or me, if you wish to discuss this.
Students should:
a) Wear full uniform to all classes and for all exams
b) Attend as many of your timetabled classes and revision sessions as possible
c) Continue to register with your form teacher in the morning; if you miss this, you must sign in at
the Main Office, on your arrival to school
d) Arrive early when you have exams – it is in your best interest to do so – and we recommend 30
minutes before the start of the exam. All morning exams start at 9.15am; all afternoon exams start
at 1.40pm
If your child experiences difficulties during this exam period, please contact the school* to discuss your
concerns - and enable us to provide appropriate advice and encouragement.
We will be in touch again with arrangements for interviews and advice to parents and students when exam
results are released in August.
Finally, I take this opportunity to wish all our year 12, 13 and 14 students every good fortune in the coming
weeks.
Best wishes
Sharon McKee
Acting Principal

*Staff you may wish to contact for further advice/support:
 Senior Teacher (Pastoral Care): Mrs F Brown
 Year Curriculum Coordinators: 6th Form, Mr J McKee; Year 12 Mr M Butler
 SENCO: Mrs M Magee
 Exams Officers: GCSE Mrs B Mason; A-level Mrs F Wallace
 Year 12-14 Form Teachers or Subject Teachers
The following points should be noted:1. All students have been given a copy of their individualised examination time-tables - please ensure that
this is to hand, and in the case of any difficulty, make contact with the College. In addition, the office
holds a copy of the GCSE timetable - and a weekly time table is displayed prominently around the
building
2. If a student wishes to go home immediately after an exam, they must have parental permission and sign
out at the Office; otherwise they are expected to attend classes, in preparation for other exams.
3. It is not permissible for students to be in school, unsupervised, at any time.
4. All students should familiarise themselves with examination regulations, which are posted outside the
hall. Mobile phones MUST be left with the exams supervisor
5. All students MUST wear regulation uniform to and from school and during examinations in the
hall. We would ask for total parental support in this
6. It is important that students plan and use their study-time wisely and to maximum effect. Parental
support and encouragement are important factors
7. All students should return text books to class teachers immediately after the last exam in individual
subjects. A charge will be made for all text books not returned
8. All locker keys should be returned to Mr Allen as soon as possible – and, at the latest, immediately
after a student’s last exam.
