PROUD TO STAND OUT
Its irregularly shaped outline tells of its unique beginnings as a city carved out by those
who refused to invisibly fit in. With passion and determination, we’ve built an open yet
sophisticated haven that values fresh thinking and individuality. The rebellious and
inspired creativity of the people who live and work here has put West Hollywood at the
leading edge of culture, entertainment and design.

WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA 90069
Officially founded in 1984 as the 84th city in Los Angeles County, West Hollywood is a
young, vibrant community with a colorful and entertaining past.
From its 19th century beginnings as a virtual “no man’s land,” the region soon became
a prime location for a railway, and in 1894, a man named Moses Sherman bought
the land and designated it as the headquarters of the Los Angeles Pacific Railway Co.
This venture sparked the need for housing, and West Hollywood (then a town called
“Sherman”) started to see its first bout of immense growth.

hub of Sherman. Movie moguls Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford, and Douglas Fairbanks
bought film studios near Santa Monica Boulevard. In 1925, when the area’s name changed
to West Hollywood, a dirt road a few blocks north served as the main commuter route
between Beverly Hills and Hollywood. This road is now known as Sunset Boulevard. Sunset
became a stomping ground for those in the entertainment world and the Sunset Strip
was born, bringing with it nightclubs, hotels and a number of architecturally significant
residences. People were drawn to this thriving western locale and celebrities of the Golden
Era considered West Hollywood the swankiest, most glamorous nightlife destination. The
upscale shopping district Sunset Plaza was born, and nightclubs such as Ciro’s, Mocambo,
and the Trocadero were the center of social life for the stars and gangsters like Bugsy Siegel.
The area gained notoriety around the nation due in part to the county’s lax law enforcement.
At present, the city has grown to 39,000 residents and remains Los Angeles’ hottest
destination for the entertainment industry with its boutique hotels, celebrity-owned restaurants,
unparalleled nightlife and shopping, and events like the HBO Emmy Party, Sir Elton John’s
Annual Oscar Party, the Vanity Fair Oscar Party, LA PRIDE and the largest Halloween street
party – the West Hollywood Costume Carnaval – in the world. West Hollywood continues to be
an example for progressive, creative individuals on the cutting edge of trends and new ideas,
working together as a community in one of the most intriguing cities in the country.

INSIDER TIPS
THE SUNSET STRIP
Careful when parking on The Strip – some areas
do not have meters but you must still pay at the
kiosks. Be sure to read all signs and you won’t
have any problems. You can also park at one of
many garages or public lots ($10-$20/night).
Visitors to Sunset Plaza can park in the lots
behind the plaza for free, but don’t stray away.
Each year The Sunset Strip celebrates its rock
history with the Sunset Strip Music Festival. Visit
SSMF.com or follow @SSMF on Twitter for dates
and more details.
Check out what bands are playing
The Strip while you’re in town at
VisitWestHollywood.com/do/calendar
Visit TheSunsetStrip.com for more
detailed information.
After decades of notoriety, The Sunset Strip continues to blaze its own path as a world-famous cultural
landmark, setting trends in music, hotels, dining and shopping. This most famous stretch of Sunset
Boulevard begins and ends in West Hollywood, and like the city it calls home, it is constantly breaking new
ground and reinventing itself.
Though it’s often been portrayed in movies like Sunset Boulevard, Almost Famous and Rock of Ages,
visitors say that nothing compares to seeing The Sunset Strip up close and in person. Bordered on the
west by Beverly Hills and on the east by Hollywood, this iconic stretch of Sunset Boulevard features an
array of world-class hotels, nightclubs, restaurants, shopping and spas.
Through the years, The Sunset Strip has seen it all, starting with the seedy glitz of the 1920s, when
Prohibition fueled the rise of nightclubs and speakeasies. Because West Hollywood was not yet an
incorporated city, this strip of Sunset Boulevard was lightly policed, making The Strip the perfect
playground for the rebellious denizens of early Hollywood. By the 1940s, swanky nightclubs like Ciro’s,
Trocadero and Mocambo reigned supreme, attracting A-list celebrity clientele like Marilyn Monroe along
with less savory characters like gangster Bugsy Siegel, who called The Strip his stomping grounds.
In the 1960s, The Sunset Strip became the major gathering place for the counterculture movement in Los
Angeles. Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison were fixtures of The Strip and the surrounding West
Hollywood landscape. The Whisky a Go Go introduced go-go dancers to the U.S. and propelled The Doors –
who at the time were the club’s house band – to fame and notoriety. The Strip continued to be a major focal
point for the punk rock and New Wave scenes during the late 1970s, and it also became ground zero for the
colorful glam metal scene, hosting bands like Mötley Crüe, Guns N’ Roses, and Poison throughout the 1980s.
10
Today, The Sunset Strip continues to launch new artists and attract
crowds to legendary music venues like The Roxy Theatre, Whisky a
Go Go, House of Blues and The Viper Room. Meanwhile, swank hotel
bars such as Tower Bar at the Sunset Tower Hotel and Skybar at
Mondrian boast some of the most popular and exclusive hideaways
on The Strip.
The Strip isn’t all nightlife though; daytime visitors will enjoy the
high-end shopping and al fresco dining of Sunset Plaza and Sunset
Millennium, two of the hottest places to “see and be seen” in Los
Angeles. Experience these areas entirely on foot, taking in the
fabulous So Cal sunshine, and see why visitors are drawn from
around the world to this eclectic destination.
Fun Facts:
★★ In 2012 a documentary titled Sunset
Strip was released featuring interviews
with stars like Keanu Reeves, Johnny
Depp, Mickey Rourke, Dan Aykroyd, Hugh
Hefner, Sharon Stone and many more.
Get an insider’s look at The Strip by
streaming or downloading the movie from
SunsetStripTheMovie.com.
★★The Sunset Tower Hotel was once an
apartment building that Hollywood stars
like Marilyn Monroe, Bugsy Siegel, Frank
Sinatra and John Wayne (who kept his
cow on his balcony) called home.
★★The Las Vegas Strip was named
“The Strip” after The Sunset Strip.
★★The Sunset Strip boasts tall billboards
that are second only to those in
Times Square in size and cost.

SANTA MONICA BOULEVARD
Fun Facts:
★ Santa Monica Boulevard’s annual
Halloween Carnaval is said to be the
largest Halloween street party in the world.
HISTORIC ROUTE 66
★★ Santa Monica Boulevard is referenced in
the classic Sheryl Crow song All I Wanna
Do (Is Have Some Fun).
★★The Pride Parade on Santa Monica
Boulevard is the second-largest event in
Los Angeles County, second only to the
Rose Parade.
West Hollywood has never been known for following trends. It’s known for setting them, and nowhere else
is this more apparent than on Santa Monica Boulevard.
This eclectic thoroughfare, which was once an industrial strip of road dotted with film studios as well as the
Los Angeles Pacific Railway, connects the east side of Los Angeles with the Pacific Ocean, passing through
Hollywood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Century City, West Los Angeles and ending in Santa Monica. And
while this street goes through various personas as you head in either direction, nowhere is Route 66 more
diverse, fun and pedestrian-friendly than the 1.9-mile stretch that runs through West Hollywood.
Route 66 was America’s main road in the 1950s for travelers heading west, and today, you can still see
signage for Route 66. West Hollywood’s portion of “The Boulevard” runs from La Brea Avenue on the east
to Doheny Drive on the west.
On Santa Monica Boulevard’s eastern side, visitors can check out local favorite bars and restaurants
such as Laurel Hardware, The Surly Goat, The Hudson, Salt’s Cure and the James Beard Award-nominated
“seafood shack,” Connie and Ted’s.
Heading west, you arrive in the heart of West Hollywood and discover unique celebrity-frequented
restaurants, eclectic boutiques, coffee shops, gyms and bookstores. Noting the rainbow flags along The
Boulevard, this area is where you see firsthand the guiding principle on which West Hollywood was built:
the freedom to be yourself and to live life your own way. Santa Monica Boulevard is home to the most
popular gay and lesbian scene in Los Angeles, with popular gay nightclubs like The Abbey, Here Lounge,
Micky’s, Gym Sports Bar, Fiesta Cantina and Revolver, all of which are bustling on any given evening. From
upscale to laid back, anyone fits in when you’re experiencing Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood!

INSIDER TIPS
★★The city installed permanent rainbow
crosswalks in 2012. The crosswalks,
painted the rainbow colors of the LGBT
flag, represent gay pride and LGBT rights
and can be viewed on Google Earth.
The Pickup Line is a fun and free trolley service
that operates on Friday and Saturday nights
from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. Look for the brightly
colored trolleys, which stop at designated stops
along Santa Monica Boulevard between La Peer
Avenue and Fairfax Boulevard.
Santa Monica Boulevard is pedestrian and pet
friendly, with wide sidewalks, many crosswalks,
and outdoor cafes.
Parking structures on or near Santa Monica
Boulevard include the Municipal Parking
Structure at the West Hollywood Library, on
the corner of San Vicente and Melrose. More
information can be found by visiting www.weho.
org and clicking on Parking Services.
Parking on streets adjacent to The Boulevard
is mostly permit-only due to the residential
community, so be sure to read the street signs.
You can obtain day permit passes from the
West Hollywood Sheriff’s station.
★★ Walk Score, a company that maintains
a public access walkability index of every
place in the United States, Canada and
Australia, has named West Hollywood the
“Most Walkable City in California.”
★★The beginnings of Hollywood can be
traced back to the United Artists movie
studio in the 1930s on Formosa Avenue
and Santa Monica Boulevard. This studio
was home to sets for the HBO hit True
Blood (among others) and is soon to be
part of OWN Network.
★★ You never know who you might see reading
a movie script or discussing their next role
at The Courtyard Brasserie at Palihouse.
Located just off of Santa Monica Boulevard
on Holloway Drive, Palihouse attracts
celebrities such as Zoe Saldana, John
Mayer and Robert Pattinson.
★★ Historic club Troubadour on Santa Monica
Boulevard played host to Elton John’s first
US concert and continues to house both
indie bands and bigger acts like Coldplay
and The Cure.
★★ Visit West Hollywood’s gay-specific website
at www.gogaywesthollywood.com for
more specific gay travel information.

Experience the West Hollywood Design District, the heart of design, fashion and art on the West Coast.
Located at the crossroads of Melrose Avenue, Beverly Boulevard and Robertson Boulevard, the West
Hollywood Design District offers a distinctive mix of global designer flagships, local boutiques, art galleries,
interior design showrooms and chic eateries. This walkable district is an unrivaled international destination
for design savvy professionals and sophisticated shoppers alike.
Back in the 1950s, the neighborhood held only a handful of shops, studios and cafes catering to the design
trade and Ed’s Coffee Shop was the place to meet fellow designers over a toasted ham sandwich and a cup of joe.
Later, in the 1960s, businesses like Phyllis Morris Originals became “designers to the stars” and brought more
and more style-seekers into the area, slowly transforming it into one of the most distinguished design districts in
the country. As more design trade resources opened their doors, the influx of artists, dressmakers, upholsterers,
dancers and musicians fleshed out the bohemian spirit of the burgeoning design district.
Home to more than 300 of the world’s finest art galleries, furniture designers, fashion boutiques, salons,
spas, al fresco cafes and fine restaurants, the West Hollywood Design District is known worldwide for its
impeccable selection of luxury products, services and experiences for those seeking the very best.
Trends start here, with a unique mix of world-renowned fashion retailers including Christian Louboutin,
rag & bone, Balenciaga, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Alberta Ferretti, Seize sur Vingt and Stella McCartney, and
local favorites including Kitson, Maxfield, Cerre and Curve.
The West Hollywood Design District offers both the professional designer and amateur a wealth of highdesign inspiration. Interior design showrooms such as Rose Tarlow Melrose House, Commune, Capellini,
Robert Kuo, Minotti, Design Within Reach Studio, Niche and Dennis & Leen emphasize the impact of the
14
district on the design world. Art galleries including M+B Gallery, Wall
Street Gallery, Louis Stern Fine Art and Guy Hepner have a significant role
in the Los Angeles art scene.
When you’re ready for a break, enjoy the organic coffee and peoplewatching at world-famous Entourage locale Urth Caffé, or try the fresh,
seasonal food offered at Lemonade. Other great restaurants in West
Hollywood Design District to wind down your day include the chic and
elegant Cecconi’s, vegan Mexican hot spot Gracias Madre and the
intimate and classic Craig’s.
Spend a day in the West Hollywood Design District and experience
first-hand the quality, style and service that makes this the premier
West Coast design district.
Fun Facts:
★★ Looking for a caffeine fix? Try Urth Caffé
on Melrose, but look out for paparazzi,
as it’s frequented by celebrities. Urth
Caffé was also known for being a regular
hangout spot on the popular LA-based
show Entourage.
★★ Hollywood’s leading ladies don’t just shop
for themselves here – West Hollywood
Design District holds two luxury baby
boutiques, Petit Tresor and Bel Bambini,
both popular among celebrity moms.
★★ West Hollywood Design District is also
host to an exquisite selection of spas
and salons including Kinara Spa, Salon
Benjamin, Marco Pelusi Hair Studio and
Ken Paves Salon, making it the perfect
one-stop beauty destination.
★★ Musicians, actors, artists, clothes lovers
and collectors all flock to Maxfield on
Melrose to find the chic, the unusual and
the outstanding. Look out for regulars like
Katie Holmes or the Olsen twins.

The landmark upon which The Charlie resides today was first built

Chaplin, Marilyn Monroe, and Gloria Swanson are only a few of

In 2002, threatened by re-development, this historical landmark
was acquired by Menachem Treivush and has since undergone a
multi-million dollar renovation. By carefully preserving historicallyscrutinizing details, incorporating the technology of today, and
dedicating careful attention to detail, Mr. Treivush has rapidly built
up The Charlie into the unique establishment that it is today. Since
re-opening to the public in 2008, The Charlie has become known

Ramada Plaza Hotel sits on the site of the former Tropicana Hotel
and Motor Lodge on Santa Monica Boulevard – near the end of the
famous Route 66. The famed rock and roll refuge with the black-tiled
swimming pool, “The Trop” was where Jim Morrison lived, as well as
Tom Waits, where Andy Warhol filmed “Heat”, where Janis Joplin partied,
and where other residents included Blondie, Led Zeppelin, Springsteen,
Sam Shepard, the Clash, the Beach Boys, Elvis Costello, and Guns N’
Roses. It was a first stop on the way up the rock and roll ladder, as well
as a place to stay once you’d made it. The big record companies grew
on Santa Monica Boulevard and the Sunset Strip during this era and
made LA the rock and roll recording center of America.
The Ramada West Hollywood was built on this hallowed site in
the 1980s and is still a stopover for the entertainment industry,
as well as international leisure travelers. Given its provenance, it’s
understandable why the Ramada Plaza has become the de facto hotel
for both the music and entertainment business in West Hollywood.

DINING
West Hollywood’s wide selection of dining establishments – from casual to upscale and classic to modern –
makes this city Southern California’s most diverse and exciting culinary destination and one not to be missed!
For a unique culinary experience that evolves into an exciting bar scene at night, try Laurel Hardware on Santa

Chef Michael Cimarusti has launched Connie & Ted’s, his modern take on a classic New England seafood shack.
Eveleigh on The Sunset Strip offers an ever-changing seasonal menu using only the freshest ingredients. And RARE
by Drai’s is a modern, stylish and welcoming steakhouse by acclaimed restaurateur and impresario Victor Drai.
World-renowned chefs flock to West Hollywood to offer their delectable cuisines to the A-list clientele
that frequents the local restaurants. Considered one of the finest restaurants in Los Angeles, Lucques –
from Suzanne Goin – is located in West Hollywood on Melrose Avenue, as is chef David Myers’ Comme
Ça, a French brasserie. Also popular among celebrities, but frequented by locals and visitors as well, is
Cecconi’s, a classic Italian restaurant from the people behind the renowned private club Soho House.
The Sunset Strip is home to a diverse selection of notable dining experiences. The Church Key has been
reeling in Young Hollywood with its stylish setting and playful American take on dim sum. For upscale
Italian fare and great patio seating right on The Strip check out the stylish RivaBella. Outdoor dining is
also popular at Sunset Plaza, where al fresco dining at Cravings and Clafoutis offer front row seating right
along the action-packed Sunset Strip – ideal for spotting exotic cars and glamorous people.
A standard tip for a meal is 15%-20%.
Ramsay at The London West Hollywood, Palihouse Café and Courtyard
Brasserie, Tower Bar at Sunset Tower, Herringbone at Mondrian, 24/7
at The Standard, Cavatina at Sunset Marquis, and Riot House at Andaz
West Hollywood.
For a more informal experience, try the classic Mel’s Drive-In on Sunset
Boulevard, which is open 24 hours. Ed’s Coffee Shop on Robertson Boulevard
is one of the most enduring establishments in the West Hollywood Design
District, having offered West Hollywood locals a cozy home-style eatery for
more than 50 years. And, of course, The Abbey serves not only the world’s
best mojitos, but a top-notch menu of breakfast, lunch and dinner, too.
Whether it’s day or night, dining is a see-and-be-seen activity, with tastes
ranging from Mexican to Japanese, Italian to California cuisine, and
steakhouse to organic. Bon appétit!

Keep your eyes open: many of West Hollywood’s
fashion boutiques have a large celebrity clientele.
At 1.9 square miles, West Hollywood is California’s
most walkable city. Sunset Plaza and the West
Hollywood Design District both feature fantastic
outdoor shopping, so leave the car behind and
take to the streets!
SHOPPING
As the West Coast’s undisputed design mecca, West Hollywood is home to a mix of boutiques, fashion houses
and design studios that can’t be found anywhere else in the world. Fashionistas and style-makers flock here
to find out what’s next in cutting-edge fashion.
West Hollywood’s main shopping areas are the West Hollywood Design District and Sunset Plaza, a collection
of shops and cafes in a glamorous historic setting on Sunset Boulevard.
West Hollywood Design District is located at the crossroads of Melrose Avenue, Robertson Boulevard and
Beverly Boulevard, and features a mix of global designer flagships, local fashion boutiques, art galleries,
interior design showrooms and chic eateries. North Robertson Boulevard has gained a reputation as a hipper,
younger alternative to Rodeo Drive and is home to brands like Christian Louboutin, Chrome Hearts, 3.1 Philip
Lim, John Varvatos, Tommy Hilfiger, Curve and Gregory’s.
Melrose Avenue features an equally impressive selection of high style retailers, including Cerre, rag & bone,
Balenciaga, James Perse, Kitson and Maxfield. Enjoy a gourmet coffee or healthy lunch at Urth Caffé on
Melrose, then set off on your shopping adventure.
One of the best things about shopping in West Hollywood is that the design
and display of the stores are given nearly as much attention as the clothing.
These cutting-edge structures elevate the shopping experience well beyond the
mainstream, as is the case with interior designer Kelly Wearstler’s first standalone
fashion boutique on Melrose Avenue. 3.1 Philip Lim’s striking modernist design
serves as the perfect backdrop for the clean and crisp lines of the clothing. The
Balenciaga and Alberta Ferretti stores – located less than a block from each other
on Melrose – are must-sees for any design and fashion enthusiast.
Santa Monica Boulevard also has its share of fashion, mostly geared toward
guys, including trendy men’s sportswear store LASC, Brick + Mortar and the
flagship store from well-known underwear brand Andrew Christian.

Hollywood in 2012. Visit the store on
Melrose whether you’re looking for high
fashion or a souvenir.
★★ Celebs have to run errands, just like we
do! Some of the best places to spot a
star in West Hollywood are at Book Soup
on the Sunset Strip, browsing books and
magazines, or at Whole Foods on Santa
Monica Boulevard, shopping for groceries.
Nestled in between Beverly Hills and Hollywood, West Hollywood is at the heart
of the Los Angeles area and is located just minutes away from major shopping
centers like the Beverly Center, The Grove and Westfield Century City.
Sunset Plaza (located along the 8600 block of Sunset Boulevard) combines the trendsetting spirit of West
Hollywood with the glamour and sophistication of Old Hollywood. Set along both sides of Sunset Boulevard in
rows of charming 1920s buildings, Sunset Plaza is home to BCBG Max Azria, Calypso St. Barth, Nicole Miller,
H. Lorenzo, Zadig & Voltaire, Armani Exchange, Sand and Oliver Peoples. Stroll the wide, pedestrian-friendly
sidewalks and be sure to have lunch or dinner in one of several upscale al fresco dining spots (the peoplewatching can be almost as much fun as the shopping).

INSIDER TIPS
Is there a list? Some bars and lounges in West Hollywood employ a “velvet rope” policy during
promoted nights, private events and industry parties. Call the club ahead of time in order to be
added to the guest list in case reservations are required, or check their website to see if a certain
themed-night residency is taking place.
Nightlife in West Hollywood is densely concentrated and conveniently walkable. Try hitting
several different spots in one night, commuting either by foot or by taxi.
Nightlife on Santa Monica Boulevard just got easier with the PickUp Line from the city of West
Hollywood – a four-mile trolley loop with stops every two to three blocks, offering passengers a lift
every 15 minutes Fridays and Saturday evenings.
NIGHTLIFE
Bars and clubs in Los Angeles are open until 2am, and usually get crowded around 10pm.
Last call for alcohol is around 1:30am.
West Hollywood has always had a reputation for living it up. With infamous live music venues, swanky lounges
and pulsing dance clubs to choose from, it’s no surprise that West Hollywood’s population nearly doubles on
the weekend. But it’s not just weekends that are hot in WeHo; any night of the week you’ll find vibrant crowds
and streets alive with fun-seekers.
Moving south of the Sunset Strip, the nightlife on Santa Monica Boulevard
is full of energy. Here, the legendary Troubadour has helped launch some
of music’s most talented performers – from greats like Elton John, James
Taylor and Van Morrison to today’s top upcoming indie acts.
The Sunset Strip continues to reinvent itself as Los Angeles’ nightlife and entertainment epicenter. It first
gained notoriety during the “Roaring Twenties” for discreet gambling and speakeasies that made it a
playground for the rich and famous. In the 1960s, the counterculture movement moved in and musicians like
Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison and Jimi Hendrix performed regularly at local music venues. The 1980s brought the
legendary antics of rockers like Aerosmith, Guns N’ Roses, and Mötley Crüe, who turned West Hollywood into
the epicenter of raging rock-and-roll excess.
In the world-renowned gay district of Santa Monica Boulevard, crowds
flock to pulsing gay clubs like Rage, Revolver, Fiesta Cantina, Micky’s,
and, just south on Robertson Boulevard, The Abbey and Here Lounge.
Visitors can enjoy a wide variety of themed nights, attractive crowds and
innovative drinks in an anything-goes atmosphere. Moving towards the
east side of the city, you’ll find local favorites like Laurel Hardware, Bar
Lubitsch, The Surly Goat and The Hudson.
Today, world-famous clubs like the House of Blues, the Viper Room, Whisky a Go Go and The Roxy Theatre
light up The Strip with an infinite variety of musical styles. Countless top musical acts got their break in these
legendary clubs and sometimes drop in to make an impromptu appearance. While on The Sunset Strip you
may also want to check out any of the decadent hotel bars such as the Tower Bar at Sunset Tower, Skybar at
the Mondrian, or Bar 1200 at the Sunset Marquis.
Beyond the music on The Sunset Strip sits a selection of drinking and dining establishments offering good
times any night of the week. Start on the more west side of The Strip at Rock and Reilly’s, Pearl’s Liquor Bar
and State Social House. A couple of blocks east will take you to the infamous mechanical bull at Saddle
Ranch Chop House. End with margaritas from Cabo Cantina or a fireside nightcap at The Den of Hollywood.

If you’re driving, it’s recommended that you use one of the City of West Hollywood’s local
parking lots or a private garage (ranging from $6-$15), and walk to your destination. Check

area the epicenter of standup comedy
and live entertainment.

are some of the first-class full-service spas, frequented by the who’s who of Los Angeles. Skin Laundry is known
for their signature facial that employs a gentle yet effective laser treatment. Makeup Mandy and EDEN by Eden

glow? Check out Sunset Tan for high-tech tanning beds and sunless tanning treatments.

LIVING OUT LOUD
LGBT INTEREST
These days, LGBT travelers are in high demand, with destinations around the world competing for gay visitors.
But nowhere else will you find such an authentically gay-friendly atmosphere and so much cosmopolitan
excitement packed into just 1.9 square miles. Located in the heart of great Los Angeles, more than 40% of
West Hollywood’s population identifies as LGBT. Visitors are assured a safe, welcoming urban environment
that was built on the needs and interests of the community.
For gay visitors, there’s a lot to love about West Hollywood, including one of the world’s most thriving gay nightlife
scenes, sleek designer hotels, and easy access to Los Angeles’ countless cultural and sightseeing landmarks.
While there’s something exciting happening here year-round, the LA Pride festival in June and Halloween
street party in October both draw hundreds of thousands of revelers, making them great times to visit.
If nightlife is your thing, Santa Monica Boulevard is where it’s all happening, with hot spots ranging from
pulsing dance clubs to friendly neighborhood bars. The Abbey, Here Lounge, Revolver, Fiesta Cantina,
Eleven, Gym Sports Bar, The Factory, Motherlode, Micky’s and Rage are just a few of the bars and clubs
that make the west side popular, while Gold Coast, Fubar and Hamburger Mary’s beckon visitors east. In
2014, two highly anticipated new venues – Cooley’s and P.U.M.P Lounge (owned by Real Housewives of
Beverly Hills cast member Lisa Vanderpump) – will add to the excitement.
Visit gogaywesthollywood.com for event listings.
All of West Hollywood’s hotels are exceedingly gay friendly. Spend your afternoons beside a glamorous rooftop
pool at The London West Hollywood, Andaz West Hollywood or Mondrian. Ramada Plaza West Hollywood is
located right in the heart of the action on Santa Monica Boulevard, buzzing with pedestrians, outdoor cafes,

shops and bars. Spacious all-suite properties like the Petit Ermitage, Le

walking distance of Santa Monica Boulevard, as is the chic pied-a-terre
Palihouse. Same sex marriage is legal in California, and West Hollywood
offers an array of places to get married, from hotel rooftops to intimate
garden settings.
If you’re looking for an alternative to the clubs, West Hollywood is full
of great restaurants, indulgent spas, sensational shopping, outstanding
art galleries and gay-frequented coffee shops. Don’t miss the West
Hollywood Design District, home to more than 300 art galleries,
fashion boutiques, interior design showrooms, and outdoor cafes with
awesome people watching. You might even run into Brad Pitt or Ellen
DeGeneres shopping for new home furnishings.
Parking close to many of the clubs is available in

(attached to the new West Hollywood Library) at
the corner of San Vicente and Melrose Avenue.

community and is located just outside of
West Hollywood. Contact the center at

The attire worn at most of West Hollywood’s gay
clubs is “casual chic” – jeans and a t-shirt will
usually do, but note that it’s warmer during the
day and cool in the evening.
Restaurants and clubs like Hamburger Mary’s,
Micky’s and Rage host entertaining weekly drag
shows. Check individual web sites for specific
days and times.
