Over 600 Year 12 students took part
in the DSFC induction programme
entitled ‘Brilliant Start’.
The outcomes of the Brilliant Start
Day were to welcome new students
to Durham Sixth Form Centre, build
relationships between students, develop
a positive rapport between teachers and
students and for students to have fun.
The fast paced and engaging day
involved over 10 exciting activities
designed to challenge and inspire
students and prepare them for the
tough academic year ahead of them.
Highlights of the day included building
an arm chair out of balloons,
constructing a paper tower out of
Newspapers, a plethora of fun
icebreakers and designing a paper
clothing range for fellow tutees.
The undisputed highlight of the day was
the Paper Fashion Show complete with
lights, DJ, smoke machine and a catchy
soundtrack.
Memorable moments included
spontaneous dancing from Miss Harris
(Head of Department for Geography
& World Development) and modelling
from Mr Brown (Head of Department
for Business Studies).
The day was brought to a close by Mrs
Beveridge (Headteacher) announcing
the fashion show winners to a huge
round of applause.
Students from Durham Sixth Form
Centre took to Twitter immediately
to highlight their enjoyment the day
saying,
‘Definitely made the right decision to
attend Durham Sixth Form Centre,
loving every minute of it’
‘So excited to be officially starting
Durham Sixth Form! The Brilliant Start
Day was so much fun and everyone
seems so nice’
‘I can’t wait for the next two years here!
Such a lovely day with lovely people’

Well done to all Year 12 students for
their efforts and contributions over the
Brilliant Start Day, your enthusiasm,
creativity and participation were greatly
appreciated.
Let’s hope the Brilliant Start turns into a
Brilliant 2 Years at Durham Sixth Form
Centre.
