1. Choose an artist from those whose works we briefly viewed online in Chapter 6 (see following list). For
one period you will be researching the life and paintings of your artist online using the links I’ve provided
below.

2. You need to work individually on the research and the essay. Find out and take notes on (do not print out):
a) Major biographical information (country of origin, birth/death, influences, studies, etc.)
b) The common themes of the artist's work (you may have to decide this using your own
judgment as you study his or her works)
c) The name and a description of your favorite painting or mural by the artist, what about it
impresses you, and your interpretation of it
4. For Tuesday, April 2 (the day we return from break) you will write a summary IN YOUR OWN WORDS
of the information you found while researching (in English). You should plan to write an intro, a short
paragraph about each of the 3 points above and a conclusion (use those Language Arts skills!). If you have
extra time, for additional points you may do a sketch of all or part of the piece of art that you chose as your
favorite (be sure you have met all requirements for the summary before doing this).
5. You will turn in your summary and your hand-written notes on Tuesday, April 2.
Note: Late summaries will be marked down one letter grade per day late.
