Calculating Board Feet
Things to remember when calculating board feet:
-Stock less than 1” thick is figured as though it were 1” thick.
-When stock is thicker than 1” the nominal size is used.
-If a measurement is given in feet, it must be changed to inches
Formula:
Bd. Ft. = Number of pieces x Thickness x Width x Length
1 x 12 x 12
Bd. Ft.= pieces x T x W x L
1 x 12 x 12
Directions: Using the cutting list provided below, calculate the board footage need to
complete the project. Use another sheet of paper to show all your work, be sure you write
the name of each piece beside your work, and at the end add up the total board feet
needed.
