Milwaukee, WI “Mourn The Dead” 4:30pm Workers are encouraged to begin gathering at Zeidler Union Square Park for a memorial service to commemorate those who never made it home from work or that died from disease caused by workplace exposure to hazards. Gwen Moore (invited) ➔ County Supervisor Martin Weddle (invited) ➔ Dan Bukiewicz – Milwaukee Building Construction Trades ➔ Jim Schultz - WisCOSH “Fight Like Hell For The Living!” 5:30pm – 7:00p Join WisCOSH at the American Postal Workers Union Hall for a fundraiser meal and discussions centered around the current state of worker and workplace health & safety. The fundraiser dinner is prepared and served by WisCOSH Board ✔ Homemade Coleslaw ✔ Homemade desserts A variety of beverages including soda, water, beer & wine will be available. Discussion Topics will include: ◦ Right to Work Legislation: What does the recently passed anti-worker legislation mean to workers health and safety in the workplace? ◦ Could the loss of “prevailing wage” laws affect worker's health and/or safety?: What are the possible and likely effects of “low cost labor” for government construction work? ◦ Are Workers Safe In Any Workplace?: In the 21st Century should children continue to be allowed to work on family owned and run farms? Do company's trade secrets outweigh worker's and community's right to know? Massive petroleum spill in WI? The increased push for “consumers” over “workers” in modern American society and other local issues. ◦ What can we do about it?: Workers have a variety of options before them. Some more likely to succeed than others. What can/will we do to Organize & Mobilize to effect a meaningful and real change for the better in worker's lives. After a Moment of Silence the floor will be opened up for questions and answers concerning Worker's Memorial Day, current OHS legislation at the state and/or federal levels as well as workplace health and safety in general. WisCOSH encourages workers, union officers and representatives and employers to attend the upcoming National Conference on Worker Safety and Health which is being held at the Maritime Institute near Baltimore, MD from June 2nd -4th and will have hundreds of classes, seminars, panel discussions and speakers. Bilingual sessions are available also. Currently you can still register for an Earlybird Discount of $225/person which includes all classes and meals. Accommodations are separate but rooms are available for $140 double occupancy or $190 single occupancy.
