Johnny Tremain Character Essay
Summary
One of the themes in the novel Johnny Tremain is that of growing and
changing as a person. Johnny has many changes occur in his
circumstances: burning his hand, political unrest, new friendships, etc.
Think about how these circumstances prompt personal change in Johnny as
he becomes a young adult.
Write an essay describing the ways Johnny changes. Use quotes from the
novel to support your ideas. Your thesis should be a response to this writing
prompt. In other words, your thesis should state, in one way or another, that
changes occur in Johnny (Johnny grows up).

Restate your thesis. Then take it a step further. Do not summarize
your supporting details in the conclusion.
