 Printed examples of Monet
 Paints/brushes

Anticipatory Set:

Show a Claude Monet painting that
the students may already know. Ask
what they know about that painting.
Accommodations/ Differentiated

Procedures:
1. Anticipatory set: Sample Monet Painting
2. Explain the Impressionism movement in art and its importance
3. Discuss how light and shadow are related. Show examples for discussion.
4. Discuss with the students what thoughts the paintings bring to mind, what emotions
they evoke. Explain to the students that different paintings can stir different thoughts and
emotion.
5. Give students print-out samples of Monet’s paintings.
6. Have students discuss the importance, light and shadow relationship, and emotion they
receive from each painting.
7. Ask students what they think about Impressionism, how do the paintings make them
feel, do they like this style of artwork (In French)
Guided Practice/ Check for Understanding:
 Ask students what they learned
Assignment (s):
 Create an impressionist painting of their own that resembles the Monet paintings.
 Students will write a one-paragraph essay in French on impressionism and what
they know about Monet’s paintings.
Evaluation:
 Student created painting
 Essay
Remediation: Students can take additional time to review paintings. Students may also
use the computers and view this website: http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/auth/monet/.
Enrichment: Students can research other painters during the French Impressionist era
and compare/contrast their work with Monet’s.

 We will first review what was read the previous night for homework and assure
that all students understand.
 I will introduce the project that will last the next two weeks.
 Students will choose a cultural topic of Spain in the 15th-16th century and create a
poster.
 Students will use the Library and the classroom laptops to acquire information.
 Students will prepare an oral presentation in Spanish of the connection between
what was happening culturally in Spain during the 15th-16th century and what they
read in Don Quijote.
 Students will have time today to work on project.
Guided Practice/ Check for Understanding:
 I will walk around the room and ensure that all the students understand the
assignment.

Remediation: Students that need assistance with word/verb usage will be given
assistance. Students may also use index cards for oral presentation.
Enrichment: Students will write in addition to oral presentation a written aspect of their
presentation in Spanish.
