However, the two run in parallel and are designed to support and reinforce each other. What Is Compulsory? All exams, both written (including take-home exams) and oral, are compulsory. In addition there are are a number of oral and hand-in written assignments. Note that written assignments (e.g. take-home exams and sometimes literature notes) must be sent via Urkund. Attendance and active participation in seminars is compulsory, whereas attendance in lectures is strictly speaking optional (though recommended). The following provides a more detailed breakdown of what is compulsory: Language Studies Written Proficiency (skriftlig språkfärdighet) General Grammar: take-home exam (also to be sent via Urkund) English Grammar: active participation in seminars (at least 80% attendance = 8/10) Language Proficiency Exam 1 (grammar & vocabulary) Written English: active participation in seminars (at least 80% attendance = 7/9) as well as two written hand-in assignments (essays) Language Proficiency Exam 2 (translation & essay writing) Oral Proficiency (muntlig språkfärdighet) Pronunciation: pronunciation test Cultural Studies: oral proficiency in seminars and final oral exam Linguistics Linguistics: written exam Cultural Studies and Literature Literature American and British Literature: compulsory attendance and active participation in seminars (at least 4/51). Word-processed notes are compulsory for each seminar and – on request – must be sent to your teacher’s Urkund address. Väl godkänd in Language Proficiency Exam 2 (E105) and four other courses. Hand-in notes may replace one literature seminar.
