(Narrators start center stage)
Narrator 1: Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall.
Narrator 2: Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
Narrator 1: Or did he?
(Narrators walk to either side of the stage)
(Humpty Dumpty walks up to the wall)
Humpty: Ah, what a beautiful day to be outside.
(Knights come in)
Knight 3: ha-ha
Knight 2: look there is Humpty
Megan: Come on guys
Who Pushed Humpty Dumpty
(Knights go to the other side of the room.)
(Humpty Dumpty is sitting on the stage just whistling. Megan comes up behind Humpty Dumpty
and “pushes” him off the table. Humpty Dumpty cracks open on the floor. Yolk on floor after
he fall.)
Witness: Oh my Goodness someone call the police!
Witness: Police!
Detective 1: Yes
Witness: Please come I just saw Mr. D get pushed off the wall! Help!
Detective 1: Don't worry we will come! Where are you?
Witness: At the front wall of the castle.
Detective 1: Ok we are on our way. Stay put.
(Police enter)
(Doctors enter)
Doctor 2: Quick get him to the hospital. This man can still be saved.
Detective 3: Can we ask this man some questions?
Doctor 3: No! This man needs emergency medical attention. You can ask him in the hospital.
( Doctors leave with Humpty)
Detective 1: Hello miss we are the detectives investigating this case. I am detective talia and
these are my partners detectives izzy and Stepan. What seems to be the problem?
Witness: I just saw Mr. Dumpty fall off the wall.
Detective 1: Can we ask you a few questions?
Witness: Okay.
Who Pushed Humpty Dumpty
Detective 3: Did he fall or was he pushed? Hmm?
Witness: I saw someone push him.
Detective 1: Did the person who pushed Humpty have any individual characteristics?
Narrator 2: Individual characteristics are clues that can be traced back to a single person.
Narrator 1: Clues are pieces of evidence or information used in detection of a crime or solving a
mystery.
Witness: I think it might have been a girl wearing a red shirt, and had brown hair.
Detective 3: Well that could be a ton of people.
Detective 2: C’mon guys we need to use DEDUCTIVE REASONING with the evidence.
Detective 1: Oh yeah
Detective 3: What’s deductive reasoning again?
Detective 2: DEDUCTIVE REASONING is when you use general information to find something
specific.
Detective 3: Who do we know that wears red?
Detective 1: AHA The knights. It was one of the knights.
Detective 1: Since the person was wearing red (general), and the knights wear red(specific),
one of the knights must have done it!
Detective 2: Exactly.
Detective 1: Is there any other information you think could be relevant to help us?
Witness: Last week I overheard Humpty and Knight Kristen arguing. I don’t know what they
were fighting about but I heard them yelling at each other.
Detective 1: That's good; we can bring Kristen in and find out what they were arguing about.
Who Pushed Humpty Dumpty
Detective 3: Let’s bring in the suspects for questioning. You can leave now. Thanks for your
time. (talking to witness)
Narrator 2: A suspect is someone who might’ve committed the crime.
Narrator 1: For example, the suspects in this story should be wearing red and have brown hair.
(Police and witness leave and come back with the knights) (Go to police scene) (Interrogation
room)
Detective 1: (to witness) Do any of these people look like the person who pushed Mr. Dumpty?
Witness: The three in the middle fit the description, but that one (points to Michael) is a boy.
Detective 2: So it could be either of the remaining three girl suspects.
Detective 3: Okay, we need find some more clues. I wonder if any of the suspects have an alibi?
Narrator 1: An alibi is if there is proof that the suspect was in a different place at the time of
the crime.
Narrator 2: Or it could mean that they have another reason why they couldn’t have committed
the crime.
(Everyone leaves) (Detectives go to hospital) ( Doctors and Humpty are at hospital)
Detective 1: Doctor how is Mr. D doing?
Nurse: Much better, I think in time he should be making a full recovery.
Detective 1: So doctors where were you at 3:00 yesterday?
Doctor: I was at the hospital taking care of some elderly patients.
Detective 2: And what about you nurse?
Nurse: I went to lunch on my break with my friend?
Detective 2: Who is your friend?
Nurse: Tejal! We went to Panera Bread.
Detective 3: Let’s go check with the security at Panera Bread.
Who Pushed Humpty Dumpty
(Everyone leaves) (Detectives go to Panera Bread)
Detective 2: Let’s find the manager maybe he can get the security footage.
(Lucas walks in)
Lucas: Hello detectives, what can I do for you!
Detective 1: We are trying to figure out who pushed Mr. Dumpty off the wall. In order to figure
this out we need to rule out some of our suspects.
Detective 2: One of our suspects claimed she was here with a friend at the time of the crime.
Detective 3: We need to see the footage to see if she came in and at what time she came and
left.
Lucas: Ok I will be right back and I will get the footage for you
(Lucas leaves then comes back with an ipad showing footage)
Lucas: our cameras caught Tejal the Knight and Nurse Merrill coming in our store at 2:50pm and
leaving at 3:20pm
Detective 2: Aha the time of the crime was at 3:00 sharp, so we can rule out Tejal because she
couldn’t have been there at the time off the crime.
Detective 3: And because Tejal the Knight has an alibi, Merrill the nurse.
Detective 1: (to humpty dumpty) How are you feeling Mr. D?
Humpty: I’m okay, I guess. Have you guys figured out who did this to me?
Detective 1: Well we have a lead that we wanted to ask you about. Our witness said that she
overheard you and Kristen having an altercation last week. Is there a chance that Kristen may
have had a motive to hurt you?
Narrator 1: A motive is an incentive to do something.
Humpty: OH NO! I think there may have been a misunderstanding. As you know I am an actor
for the king. Kristen was just helping me rehearse one of my scenes.
Narrator 2: That was just a red herring. A red herring is a misleading piece of evidence.
Who Pushed Humpty Dumpty
Detective 3: That leaves Megan. Let’s go talk to her.
(Everyone leaves) (Detectives go meet Megan at interrogation room)
Detective 1: Megan did you push Humpty Dumpty off the wall.
Megan: No
Detective 3: Let’s go search the crime scene for evidence that helps us find who it is.
(Everyone leaves) (Detectives go to crime scene)
Detective 1: Let’s spread out and look for any clues.
(Spread out and look for clues)
Detective 3: Come here guys look I found a bracelet with an ‘M’ on it right next to where Mr. D
was pushed.
Detective 2: Hey! Maybe the ‘M’ stands for Megan.
(Leave Castle) (Go to Megan at interrogation room)
Detective 1: (to Megan) Is this yours?
Megan: Yes
Detective 1: And how did it get here?
Megan: Uhh, I lost it last week.
Detective 3: But I thought you just moved here 3 days ago.
Megan: Okay fine! I pushed Humpty Dumpty!
Detective 1: Why?
Megan: Because he stole my acting job with the king.
Detective 2: That’s not a good reason to push someone off a wall
Megan: I take so many extra acting classes, I try so hard to be good and Humpty Gets all the
good jobs and I do so much more work than him.
Who Pushed Humpty Dumpty
Detective 3: Still that’s not a good reason.
Megan: Whatever, I’m just getting really annoyed that I work so much harder than him. It’s just
not fair.
Detective 2: Maybe you should tell him how you feel.
Megan: Ok
(IN COMES HUMPTY DUMPTY)
Megan: I’m sorry I just get frustrated that you get more acting jobs than me
Mr. D: I’m sorry I dint know you felt that way I’ll let you get more jobs.
Megan : Oh my really! Thank you!
Narrator 2: Mr. D forgave Megan the Knight
Narrator 1: And they lived a happy life as friends. The End
