Table S2
Introduction
The supporting information includes two tables; Table S1 contains the details of
radiocarbon dating of five different samples from the end moraine, and Table S1
contains major element analysis of tephra layers identified in the moraine. Samples for
radiocarbon dating were collected in 2009 and 2010 and processed at the Radiocarbon
Dating Laboratory at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (Lab no. Tra2833 and 2834) and the Ångström Laboratory at Uppsala University, Sweden (Lab no.
Ua-39081, 42013, and 42014). Major element geochemistry of the tephra layers was
1
analyzed on a JEOL Super probe JSL 8200 at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark
in November 2014 and January 2015.

Table S1. Radiocarbon results from organic material sampled in the sedimentary
sections in Arnarfellsmúlar (Figure 2). The 14C ages are calibrated with OxCal 4.2 using
the IntCal13 calibration curves (Reimer et al., 2013). LPT indicates that the sample is
from a Loess-Peat-Tephra sequence.
Table S2. Results from major element analyses of identified tephra layers. The
analyses have been examined for outliers, i.e. grains with a geochemical composition
with abnormal levels of Al, Fe, Ti, Ca, Na or K reflection contamination by microlites or
impurities in the glass and exulted from further investigation, as well as those where the
percentages of the oxides did not sum to at least 95%. Italic analyses in samples
MUP1019 and MUP1022 are interpreted not to belong to the Hekla 1980 tephra and are
most likely present do to sampling contamination.
