RESOLUTION
A BIG WEB PRESENCE
WHEREAS, Goal Number One of BIG’s National Strategic Plan articulates the need to Focus
on Membership Programs by providing “initiatives to retain existing members through better
communications and outreach programs…” as well as to “Focus on Official Leadership
Training by the increase [of] members’ awareness of the services and program offered by
BIG”;
WHEREAS, in Article II, Section 5 of the Goals Objectives of the National Constitution states:
To establish a mechanism for the gathering and dissemination of information to Blacks in
government;
WHEREAS, approximately 80% of BIG Chapters are without websites that can be used as an
effective marketing, membership, and fundraising tool, which can also be used to disseminate
information regarding Professional Development, Advocacy, Giving Back, and EEO concerns
to current and interested members, sponsors, and supporters (see attached chart);
FURTHERMORE, WHEREAS, the lack of a website may actually deter corporate sponsorship,
new membership, and cannot possibly advance BIG’s Strategic Plan;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that within 60 days of the close of the 2015 NTI, all BIG
chapters will have a functional webpage and link on the BIG’s National Membership page, and
all new chapters will be required to do the same within 60 days of being chartered;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that within 90 days of the close of the 2015 NTI, the National
headquarters of BIG will publish a single “webpage” in the name of those chapters which do
not have a website. This page will consist of such basic information as the names and contact
numbers of chapter officers and chairpersons of active committees (where applicable), along
with the local chapter’s Mission and Goals if available. If not available, the Mission and Goals
of the national organization will be posted. Additionally, the webpage will contain a generic
email contact form.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that chapter webpages created and published by BIG National
will only be updated four times a year on a quarterly basis, and each update request outside
the quarterly schedule will cost the local chapter $25.00.
