Derek K. Johnson, M.D.
, is medical director of the Fairfax Allergy, Asthma and Sinus
Clinic, in Fairfax, Virginia. He has served as the director of allergy and clinical immunology and as assistant professor of pediatrics at Tem ple University Children’s Medical Center in
Philadelphia, PA. He now focuses his efforts and research in the field of pediatric and adult allergies in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. He is also Medical Advisor to the
Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America.
Dr. Johnson’s research on pediatric asthma has been published in the Journal of Allergy and
Clinical Immunology. Additionally, he is affiliated with numerous medical societies including the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, the American College of
Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American
Medical Association.
Dr. Johnson is a native of the Pacific Northwest and grew up in Seattle, Washington. Before undergraduate school, he studied Spanish at the University of Salamanca in Salamanca,
Spain, where he learned to speak Spanish fluently. He then earned his Bachelor of Science degree in biology and biochemistry from the University of Washington in 1990. Dr. Johnson received his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington,
D.C. Following graduation, he interned and completed his residency in pediatrics at the
Miami Children’s Hospital in Miami, Florida. He completed fellowship training in allergy and immunology at the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Johnson is board certified in pediatrics, allergy and immunology.
