Section 1 Description
Activity Title: Spotlighting excursion
Location: Karawatha Forest Park, Brisbane
Description of Activities:
Students will be taken on a guided walk through Karawatha Forest Park after
dark. The purpose of this exercise is to show students some of the nocturnal
fauna inhabiting bushland in and around Brisbane.
Students will be following tutors while spotlighting fauna along established
tracks through the forest. Tutors will be handling frogs and geckos using
plastic bags and showing these to students in plastic clip-seal bags.
Otherwise students are not to interfere with fauna in any way.

Watch out for wasp’s nests in vegetation and check clothes and body for
ticks after working in bush.

Snake bites are to be treated using the pressure- immobilisation technique
shown in class.
Ensure private vehicles are roadworthy. Drivers/ Cyclists are to observe and
