Conservation Halton advises a rainfall warning has been issued by Environment Canada
regarding a major storm entering our region this afternoon and continuing into tomorrow.
This system is forecasted to include milder temperatures, strong winds and bring
upwards of 50 mm of mixed precipitation (rain, freezing rain, ice pellets, and/or snow)
with the potential of thunderstorm activity.
The forecasted precipitation and temporary mild temperatures will assist in the partial
melting of the snow pack and will result in increased stream flows. While widespread
flooding is not expected, the possibility of ice break-up and blockages due to remnant
debris at bridges and culverts from the ice storm are possible. Flooding in various low
lying areas of the watershed may also exist.
Our reservoirs are holding at winter levels which allow for larger storage capacity for
circumstances of this nature.
Conservation Halton is asking all residents and children to stay away from all
watercourses and structures such as bridges, culverts and dams. Elevated water
levels, fast flowing water, and slippery conditions along stream banks continue to
make these locations extremely dangerous. Please alert children in your care of
these imminent dangers.
Conservation Halton will continue to monitor stream and weather conditions and will
issue further messages as necessary. This Watershed Condition Statement will be in
effect through to Saturday, February 22, 2014.
