World authority on sex violence to address Parliament House forum

World authority on sex abuse to address
Parliament House forum
An international authority on sexual abuse against women, Dr Mary Anne Layden, is
in Australia this week to address the first ever national Sexual Integrity Forum at
Parliament House, Canberra.
A highly respected commentator on the effects of pornography, prostitution and the
international trafficking of women in prostitution, Dr Layden is the keynote speaker at
the two-day forum which begins Monday, in the Main Committee Room.
Forum organiser, Warwick Marsh, of the Fatherhood Foundation, said the Sexual
Integrity Forum aimed to promote quality relationships between men and women for
the purpose of ending the sexual exploitation of women and children in Australia in
the 21st Century.
Speakers and delegates represent a range of organisations working to reduce the
sexual exploitation of women and children. Two former sex workers, including an ex
brothel madam, will share their experiences of working in the sex trade. A number of
MP’s from the major parties will also address the forum (see program, over).
Dr Mary Anne Layden is a psychotherapist and Director of Education at the Center
for Cognitive Therapy at the University of Pennsylvania, Co-Director of the Sexual
Trauma and Psychopathology Program and the Director of the Social Action
Committee for Women’s Psychological Health. Co-author of Cognitive Therapy of
Borderline Personality Disorder with C. Newman, A. Freeman and S. Morse, Dr
Layden has written numerous chapters on Cognitive Therapy especially on treatment
of Borderline Personality Disorder.
Dr Layden specialises in the treatment of victims and perpetrators of sexual violence
and sexual addiction. She has testified before the U.S. Congress on issues of
sexual violence, the sex industry and the media and lectured extensively both in the
US and overseas on Cognitive Therapy, Personality Disorders, childhood sexual
trauma, sexual addiction, the sex industry and imagery techniques. Dr Layden will
