Assists school sites by being a skillful observer and evaluator in the classroom
Advises and supports classroom teachers and school staff regarding a student’s
educational performance
Provides teachers and other professionals with guidelines for observing,
interpreting and documenting student’s learning patterns and behavioral responses
Helps modify instructional strategies in regular and special education settings
Knows and understands current regulations that impact area of responsibility

Assessing Student Needs
Gathers relevant information to answer referral questions including, but not
limited to: record review, parent/staff interviews, classroom observations, etc.
Uses assessments appropriate to student’s needs
Administers tests in a clinically accurate and appropriate manner
Uses program eligibility criterion appropriately to make educational
recommendations
Offers a detailed and accurate interpretation of assessment data
Follows legally mandated assessment time frames and federal and state
requirements and, when applicable, SELPA guidelines
Standard Four:

Communicating Effectively with School and Community
Communicates effectively in speaking and writing
Provides correct information and facilitates understanding of all parties
Keeps supervisor apprised of potential problems and important details
Adheres to professional standards and practices in communicating
Demonstrates effective communication with a variety of people with varying
education and socio-cultural backgrounds
Demonstrates skill in working effectively in a variety of team settings
Responds to written communications in a timely manner

Managing Interventions Effectively
Applies knowledge of learning and behavior to address student academic and
behavior concerns
Consults with educational staff, administration, and parents; offers intervention
strategies
