Task Introduction:
What are the lasting contributions that historians make
to our understanding of the past?
Investigating who writes history can provide a deeper understanding of
the history we encounter throughout our education. By exploring the
lives of some of the world’s historians, we can familiarize ourselves with
the people that offer a window to the past.
The task:
Design a poster that employs the visual techniques of a “Wanted” poster
(popularized in portrayals of the American wild west) to display critical facts
about a famous historian.
The research guidelines are:
a) include at least 2 sources (avoiding Wikipedia scores higher)
b) list your sources on the back of your poster in the best format you know
The poster guidelines are:
a) use A3 paper
b) design with care so that your ideas are clearly communicated
c) include the following essential ingredients:
a. “Wanted” title [example: WANTED FOR HIS DETAILED HISTORY
OF CHINESE DYNASTIES]
b. Name of historian
c. Image of historian
d. Context of writing (date, place, topics, interesting stuff)
e. Titles of publications
d) Consider the following optional components:
a. Quotations from actual historical writing
b. Quotations about the historian written by other people
c. Colour
