Learning Target: I can evaluate the contributions made by Muslims to
world civilization.
Task: Imagine that you are on a committee that must select one Muslim figure
from history who has made the most significant contribution to the world in
general. Nominees might include: Caliph al-Ma’mun, Ibn Sina,
Al-Khwarizmi, Rhases, Ziryab, Al-Kindi…
 Identify historical figures in the chapter and research/record their
contributions on notebook paper (and possibly do additional research
about them using the Internet and/or library).
 Evaluate the contributions of each historical figure. How have their
contributions made an impact on the modern world? Which
contributions are the most significant or important?
 Select the ONE figure that you think has made the most significant
contribution to world civilization.
 Identify at least three specific examples of the contributions
made by the figure you chose
 Write your proposal for who is the most significant Muslim figure
from history to contribute to the modern world in letter form to
the “Selection Committee”
 Argue your choice persuasively
 Include the specific examples of contributions you identified
