CAMBRIDGE COLLEGE LIMA
Cambridge College is a dual-curriculum school for Peruvian children, which follows both the
British and Peruvian curricula. It is located on a spacious site in a pleasant environmentally
protected coastal suburb, 20 minutes to the south of the Miraflores district of Lima.
The school is a member of the British Schools of Peru (BSP), a group of 7 British founded
schools located in Peru, and of the Latin American Heads Conference (LAHC), an association
of more than 40 schools from all regions of Latin America. Both groups organise activities for
students and professional development opportunities for teachers.
The school follows the Peruvian curriculum, but also offers a bilingual education according to
the British system. In Primary school, the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE)
Cambridge Primary programme in English, Maths and Science is followed, which leads to
external evaluation at the end of Primary. Humanities subjects are also taught through the
medium of English in Primary.
Similarly, in lower Secondary the CIE Secondary 1 programme is followed in English, Maths
and Science, and, later, a wide range of subjects leading to IGCSE examination in their
penultimate year, is offered.
Students leave school to enter university at age 17, not 18, in Peru. During their final year,
students study either additional subjects at IGCSE level or subjects that form part of the CIE
Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE). The most able and motivated manage
to complete the full Diploma, by passing six subjects in the corresponding examinations.
There are more than 90 full-time teaching staff in the school, 17 of whom have English as their
first language. Entry into the school is at 4 years of age and the school is divided into 3 levels:
Early Years, Pre-Kinder and Kinder; Primary, Grades 1 to 6; and Secondary, Forms I to V.
Each year group is formed by approximately 75 students giving a total of 1020 pupils in the
whole school. Most children have English as a second language, and their levels of proficiency
vary from adequate to excellent.
Cambridge College´s vision is to employ sound up-to-date pedagogical methodologies,
together with leading-edge technology, to provide an education of internationally recognised
academic excellence; while at the same time offering opportunities to develop sporting, artistic
and other talents; and actively promoting a caring attitude towards the environment and the
community.
