Global 9 Honors: Summer Assignment World Geography Test on the first day of class -- September 9th Summer Assignment : On the first day of school, you will be expected to locate, label, and designate the geographic zones of the following countries on a world map for a test grade. A word bank will be provided, and you will have thirty minutes to complete this task. I’ve attached a blank copy of a world map for your convenience. (*Please note - there is good news here! You are not required to turn anything in on the first day. The map is simply there for practice. What you will be expected to do is research the material independently and learn each country’s location and geographic zone in preparation for the test.) To best prepare for this assessment, please use resources you have available at home or your local library. If you do not have access to the internet or an atlas, please make alternate arrangements so that you are prepared for our test on the first day of class. (You can check out an atlas from the High School Guidance Office prior to the start of the school year, which is open 9am-2pm on weekdays). The countries for which you are responsible are organized according to geographic zones (as dictated by the AP curriculum). You are responsible for knowing which country belongs in each zone for the TEST. (*Did I mention you will take the test on Day 1? Yes, I believe I did … four times. There is a test on Day 1. That’s five times. I think we’re covered.) *See a sample test question on the backside of this page. Sub-Saharan Africa: Congo Democratic Republic of Congo Ethiopia Ghana Kenya Mali Nigeria Rwanda Somalia South Africa Eastern Europe: Greece Macedonia Poland Russia (this is not a typo - Russia is considered part of East Europe) Ukraine Southeast Asia: Cambodia (Khmer) Indonesia Philippines Thailand Vietnam Latin America: Argentina Bolivia Brazil Chile Columbia Cuba Ecuador Mexico Panama Peru Venezuela Western Europe: Belgium England Finland France Germany Italy Netherlands Norway Portugal Spain Sweden Switzerland Middle East (*the Middle East is broken up into two subcategories: North Africa & Southwest Asia) North Africa: Morocco Algeria Libya Egypt (Helpful hint: the politics of N. Africa have typically been dominated by men, and the countries that border N.A. are an acronym for M.A.L.E.)
