Lesson Plan Teacher: Leung Wing Chung Class: 1A (even class number) Date: 5/11/2014 (Wed) Time: 9:20 am – 10:00 am Topic: Text and Document (Textbook Theme B Chapter 1) Learning Objectives Students can recognise the following elements in typography: Fonts and typefaces Font size and font style Alignment of text Prerequisite Knowledge Word processing (used any word processor in primary school) Lesson Activities Duration 5 5 10 2 2 6 5 5 Activities Students enter computer room Introduction: students identify the typesetting features of an article (in p.1 of the worksheet.) Types of typefaces: A few typefaces are given to students. They are asked to classify the fonts into 3 categories: serif, san serif, and others. After the activity, students are introduced the fact that a serif is a line which extends from the stroke end of the character. Students are introduced to the various text attributes, i.e. typeface, font style and font size. Font sizes are introduced. Students are reminded that the unit is point (pt), where 1 inch = 72 pt = 2.54 cm. The following font styles are introduced: boldface, italics, underline, strikethrough, outline (shadow is excluded because it is hard to print in a worksheet.) Students are asked to do a worksheet to recognize the font styles used in the samples. Alignments are introduced to students. The students will recognise the alignments in the worksheet. Summary and homework assignment Teaching Aids Nil Worksheet Worksheet, Appendix (major types of typefaces) Worksheet Worksheet Homework Note: The other lesson in will be used for distribution and checking of the First Test. Hence I do not expect to finish the whole chapter in the lesson. The parts “readability of a document” and “document file formats” will be taught in the next lesson. ~1~ Expected Difficulties Difficulties Students are very weak in English in general. Great individual difference. Solutions Some verbal instructions are given bilingually, so the weaker students can understand the instructions and gradually switch to English. Instructions in worksheets are made as short as possible. Allow students to say new terms in Chinese. Of course students are required to learn the same term in English terms after the discussion. Encourage students to discuss in groups of two or three, so weaker students can ask their classmates for help. Add an extended activity in the worksheet, so students may try them if they finish the class work early. Note: the extended activity requires searching for information not inside the textbook. ~2~ HKTA Tang Hin Memorial Secondary School S. 1 Computer Literacy Name: ( ) Class: Date: Text Introduction Can you recognise the formatting features of the following document? Today’s Web is a much richer platform.” Although Web and mobile developers have been using parts of the HTML5 specification for several years, the finished specification—which the W3C calls a recommendation—ensures developers that the code they develop for the Web will work going forward. “We’re now at a stable state that everyone can build to the standard and be certain that it will be implemented in all browsers,” Jaffe said. “If we didn’t have complete interoperability, we wouldn’t have one Web.” ~3~ HKTA Tang Hin Memorial Secondary School S. 1 Computer Literacy Extended activities For both questions, use the internet to help you to get the answers. 1. You have learnt about serif and san serif typeface in this chapter. Now find more details about classification (分類) of typefaces. Write down a summary of your findings below.
