Congratulations you have been successful with your audition/interview applying for a
performance/production role for our new exciting musical based upon The Matrix.
You have a short period of time to choreograph, rehearse and teach a suitable routine to be
used within the show. Remember to stay true to the idea behind The Matrix the film to
ensure fans enjoy it.
Your routine must be at least a 2-3 minute piece of dance based upon the piece of Matrix
inspired music you’re given.
Your dance must demonstrate the following skills
Action, space, dynamics, canon, unison, contact, varying speeds (ie slow motion), at least 4
formations, fragmentation and repetition.
The director would also like some pictures and diagrams of the choreographic process.

Synopsis of ‘The Matrix’
In the near future, a computer hacker named Neo discovers that all life on Earth may
be nothing more than an elaborate facade created by a malevolent cyber-intelligence, for
the purpose of placating us while our life essence is "farmed" to fuel the Matrix's
campaign of domination in the "real" world. He joins like-minded Rebel warriors Morpheus
and Trinity in their struggle to overthrow the Matrix.
1. Watch the trailer for The Matrix and make notes about ideas for your
routine/makeup/costume designs: formations/movements/dance styles/colours used,
styles of clothing/materials to use etc. Keep these together.
2. Use Youtube to look at and research other examples of dance routines/makeup/costume
people have done based upon this theme and keep notes/ideas/thoughts/how these
ideas could impact upon the performance and the audience watching it? Here are some
