Metamorphic rocks
“Change in form”
Metamorphic rocks are formed when any type of rock
(sedimentary, or igneous) is changed when exposed to heat
and pressure without melting.
Key Words: Heat and Pressure
FOLIATED: This type of metamorphic rock has layers or bands
of different minerals. You can clearly see the layers inside the rock.
Some examples of foliated metamorphic rocks include:
Gneiss
Schist
Slate
Non-FOLIATED: This type of metamorphic rock does not have
a layered or banded look; these rocks are more homogenous (the same)
throughout.
Some examples of non-foliated metamorphic rocks include:
Marble
