Supplementary Information
The previously published estimates of the anuual Net Ecosystem Exchange of CO2(NEE) used to create Figure 1 in the main text are shown in
Table S1. These sites were initially selected from among Ameriflux sites with at least five site-years of available data, though sites were included
in the table even if less than five years of reported estimates of NEE were recovered in the literature. In some cases, data were digitized from
graphical displays. The ecosystem type variable indicates: 1 = agricultural field, 2 = grassland or shrubland, 3 = Evergreen forests, 4 = Deciduous
Forest, and 5 = wetland or march. NEE is given in units of g C m-2 y-1.
