Brain-Computer Interfaces
We are working on making brain sensing technologies accessible and useful to able-bodied computer users, i.e. the mass consumer market. Our work in
this area includes modeling cognitive state for the purposes of interface evaluation and adaptive interfaces, but also developing novel use of the
technology to decode and use implicit cognitive processing to perform useful tasks such as image classification.
Muscle-Computer Interfaces
Muscle-computer interfaces directly sense and decode human muscular activity rather than relying on physical actuation or perceptible user actions. We
believe that this is the first step towards tapping into the vast amount of information contained within the human physiology.
Interactive Machine Learning
We have projects in various domains that explore and exploit the dynamic interaction of human users with computational techniques such as machine
learning. Examples include CueTIP, a mixed-initiative interface for correcting handwriting recognition errors, as well as CueFlik, a system that
interactively reranks image search results based on visual properties of examples provided.

PS: I’d be perfectly fine if everything 2006 and before were tucked away on a different page linked by “more…” link, since we technically did
not exist before then, but it’d be great to get all pubs done by the three of us at MSR on the group page somewhere.
