Introduction
You live in the country of Hancockonia. Hancockonia is a beautiful country full of friendly
citizens. The only problem is that Hancockonia is ruled by an evil dictator named Jerome.
Jerome often makes decisions without fully thinking them through. He new idea is nothing out
of the ordinary. Jerome’s favorite season of the year is Fall. He has asked a group of
environmental advisors to build a shield that will block the sun’s rays for 20 hours of every day.
Because of the threat of global warming and the increased rate of skin cancer, the environmental
advisors think that having one permanent season of Fall is a great idea. They think is will be a
great new way of life for the people of Hancockonia.
You and the members of your group have decided to develop a presentation to give to Jerome
and his advisors that will argue against the idea of the shield. You realize that a permanent
Autumn will have disastrous results on the earth. In order to present your belief convincingly you
must be able to teach Jerome and his advisors about the process of photosynthesis and why it is
so important.
Task
Your role is one of the key components in the process of photosynthesis. You will have to
research the process of photosynthesis fully and be able to explain to Jerome exactly what
photosynthesis is and why it is so important for his advisor’s plan to build the sun shield to be
rejected.
To do this you will:
1. Create a poster to present the function and importance of your individual role and the part you
play in the process of photosynthesis.
2. Create a group presentation in the form of a skit or song that will explain the process of
photosynthesis and its importance to Jerome and his advisors. The group will design a creative
skit/song that will present this information in the best possible way to the leaders of
Hancockonia.
Process
1. Join forces with one other group of citizens from Hancockonia. The first step you need to
take is to make sure that all group members have the same research information. If research
varies, cross reference your websites in order to come to a conclusion on the best possible
findings.
2. Now that you’ve done some brainstorming and the creative juices are flowing, you should
start creating your poster. Remember that the reason for making your poster is to show the
important part your role has in photosynthesis.
3. While you work on the groups poster, come together to plan your skit/song to present to
Jerome and his advisors. First, let’s get the group organized:

Use the sequence chart to focus the group on the purpose of your presentation and to start
talking about ideas for your skit/song.
4. After organizing the information you have collected, it is time for the group to actually write
out your skit/song and plan how you will present your research and ideas to the dictator of
Hancockonia. Remember, your group’s skit/song should convince Jerome and his advisors of
the importance of photosynthesis and why the proposed sun shield would destroy life as you
know it! You will need to write out the actual script/lyrics for the skit/song so that the leaders
may follow along as you present.
5. You’re now ready to perform! Professa DePung will tell you where and when you will be
giving your skit presentation to Jerome and his advisors. Good luck with the performance!
