What to know:
 What is non-fiction?
 Types of non-fiction books (newspapers, dictionaries, magazines, biography, etc.)
 Know how to locate the following text features: Heading, subheading, caption, bold
word, glossary, parenthesis ( ), index, title, illustration, map, italics, table of contents.
 Be able to read non-fiction and answer questions about it.
Where to study?
 In Language Arts (LA) copybook: review text feature ‘cut-out’ pictures
 Text Feature Book project
 Red folder worksheets titled..: ‘Book Title Sort’, ‘Sample Text Feature Anchor Chart’,
‘Text Features’, ‘Non-fiction Features’ matching, and Non-fiction reading package (first
page is a hockey team chart).
It is about understanding, rather than memorizing. Some students may need no review,
others a little, and some more intensive review.
