Line responsibility: To the Centre Director of The Edge. Location: Office based in The EDGE. You will also work in the schools and community centres of Ballynahinch and local area, or such other locations as reasonably required by the Board of The Edge in order to ensure proper fulfilment of your duties. Probationary Term: The first year of employment will be a probationary period during which time your performance will be monitored at 6 and 12 months. Your employment is permanent but subject to satisfactory reviews, and to finance being available. Salary: £15,670-£19,065 per annum, dependent on experience and qualifications. As a charity The Edge fundraises for its income and staff members are expected to share in the burden of fundraising. Mileage allowance for business use of your own car and out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed monthly. Working Hours: 37.5 in 10 sessions a week A session is defined as a morning, afternoon or evening. You will be entitled to take time off in lieu (TOIL) of sessions worked in excess of that. You will be required to work at least 3 nights a week. Holidays: 20 days pa plus 11 statutory public holidays. You will receive 1 additional day per year of employment with The Edge to a maximum of 5 days. RESPONSIBILITIES To support and direct the strategic planning and programme delivery of The Edge, in partnership with the Centre Director To develop and facilitate a youth-work programme related directly to the needs of young women from Year 11+ in Ballynahinch. To continue and develop the existing detached youth work from The Edge To facilitate and develop personal & social development through one-to-one meetings with the target age group. To work within the local schools, including assemblies, Scripture Union and detached work To recognise The Edge’s place in the local Christian community as an interdenominational organisation. This requires a willingness to nurture our relationship with the local church - developing contacts, increasing credibility, increasing ownership of The Edge’s ministries and being available as a resource to local churches in their youth activities as appropriate. To foster appropriate networks/partnerships with other service providers in the local community. To keep up-to-date with issues affecting services and opportunities for young people. Staff Training & Development Undertake training as deemed appropriate by your Line Manager and the board. The Edge is committed to developing you as a person. To this end you will be encouraged to discuss your personal developmental needs and goals, and to contribute to your own development, for example by reading relevant magazines and books, taking relevant evening classes and courses etc. Actively seek to recruit volunteers to work with The Edge and maintain an effective rota system. Strengthen the sense of team unity amongst volunteers, maximising their potential and their effective witness. Administration & Finance Complete weekly timesheets. Maintain accurate records and evaluations of all work done. Develop monthly aims and objectives in conjunction with your Line Manager. Submit a monthly evaluation report to your Line Manager. Be involved in the development of The Edge’s financial support base through appropriate fundraising activities, contact-building with local supporters and funding applications to promote sustainability. At least three years’ experience of fulltime youth work, or five years of relevant part-time experience A good knowledge of the issues they face and the ability to create/implement relevant activities to address such issues Desirable Criteria Qualified in accordance with the JNC Report for Youth Workers, Paragraph 5 Significant experience in schools work Significant experience in Detached/Outreach Work. Significant experience in work with young women.
