THE WARD AND MARY WOODDELL SCHOLARSHIP TRUST
Amos Ward Wooddell established the Ward and Mary Wooddell Scholarship
Fund in his last will and testament to provide a fund, the income from which is to be used
to “defray the tuition and college living expenses of worthy students who are not
financially able to fully pay their own expenses at college”. Any institution, whether
academic or technical, qualifies as long as the program leads to a B.A. or B.S., or the
equivalent. (Postgraduate studies do not qualify.) These scholarships are renewable
annually for a maximum of three times, provided that recipients maintain a “C” average
(2.0 of 4.0); that they are enrolled full-time; and that they are making satisfactory
academic progress.
Any student graduating from a Clinton County high school, or a permanent
resident of Clinton County graduating from a non-Clinton County high school, may apply
for a scholarship. Scholarships will be awarded based on a demonstrable need for
financial assistance, with consideration given to good character, citizenship, seriousness
of purpose and enthusiasm for learning.
The attached application must be completed and returned to the guidance
counselor by April 1st. The scholarship award will be announced at graduation. The
money connected with this scholarship will be credited to the recipient’s account at the
college of their choice. To apply for renewal, recipients must forward a copy of their
grades, and a statement certifying that they will be attending college full-time, to the
trustee of the Ward and Mary Wooddell Scholarship Fund.
