Introduction
This project focuses on the System Life Cycle model and the development of a
computerized attendance system for the school. The purpose of this project is to study
the existing manual attendance system, identify its limitations, and design a more
efficient digital solution. By applying the different stages of the System Life Cycle, this
project aims to improve accuracy, reduce workload, and enhance data management in
the school environment.
1. Investigation
The school currently uses a manual attendance system which is slow, inaccurate, and
difficult to manage. Records can be lost and report generation is time-consuming. A
computerized attendance system is required to improve efficiency, accuracy, and data
security. The system is feasible because schools already have basic ICT infrastructure
and it reduces long-term costs.
2. Analysis
The main users of the system are teachers, administrators, and students. Teachers mark
attendance, administrators manage records and generate reports, and students view
attendance status.
Inputs include student ID, class, date, and attendance status. The system processes this
data by storing it in a database and calculating attendance percentages. Outputs include
attendance records and reports.
3. System Design
Teachers log in, select classes, enter attendance, and save data to the database. The
system processes this data and generates reports.
Required hardware includes computers and internet connection. Required software
includes attendance management software, database software, and security software.
4. Development and Implementation
The system will be developed using programming languages such as Python or PHP
with a database such as MySQL. Implementation includes pilot testing, staff training,
data transfer, and full deployment.
5. Testing and Evaluation
Testing includes unit testing, system testing, and user acceptance testing. Feedback will
be collected and improvements will be made to increase system reliability.
6. System Maintenance and Review
Corrective maintenance will fix errors, adaptive maintenance will update the system, and
perfective maintenance will improve performance. Regular monitoring will be done
using backups and system checks.
