Summary
Entire Sanctification – the glorious completeness of them that are in Christ Jesus. In this
surpassing chapter the several streams of the preceding argument meet and flow in one
"river of the water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the
Lamb," until it seems to lose itself in the ocean of a blissful eternity. this is no mere
legal arrangement: it is a union in life; believers, through the indwelling of Christ's Spirit
in them, having one life with Him, as truly as the head and the members of the same
body have one life.
A. A Jewish wife could not divorce her husband… that was the husband’s right
under the law – she was (lit. under the law of a husband). When her husband died, she
was discharged from the obligations of the marriage law.

Vs. 4-6
1. Paul’s readers have had a binding relation to the law
2. The readers died to the law
3. They are now free to be joined to another (Jesus Christ)

Vs. 7-25
a. The law cannot be identified with sin.
b. The law provides awareness of sin
A Xray machine is not diseased when it discovers cancer.
Now Paul offers the picture of a person’s soul struggle who tries to serve God by
obeying the law but is defeated by the operation of sin within himself. (Jer. 17:9)

Parenthesis definition
2. A qualifying or amplifying word, phrase, or sentence inserted within written

3. A comment departing from the theme of discourse; a digression.
Thankfully Paul doesn’t end his letter to the Roman church with chapter 7 or it would
leave us engaged in a struggle against evil wondering if we are going to make it or
not. See Romans 8:1:
