❖ The name thermodynamics stems from the Greek words thermo (heat) and dynamics
(power).
❖ Thermodynamics can be defined as the study of energy, energy transformations and its
relation to matter
❖ The science of energy, that concerned with the ways in which energy is stored within a body.
❖ Energy transformations – mostly involve heat and work movements.
