Project 1: Load analyses
1. An office building is planned near the Klotche center on the UWM campus. According to
the initial design, the building has four stories with a story height of 12ft and a flat roof.
Determine the design wind load for the left wall based on ASCE 7.

You may need these parameters:
• Assume unified wind load and calculation was based on the mean roof height
• Design wind speed can be found at https://asce7hazardtool.online with an address
• Mean Roof height: 48’
• Importance factor: I=1.15, (building use factor II and non-hurricane prone region)
• Exposure category:
• Velocity pressure exposure coefficient (Kz):
• Wind directionality factor (Kd): 1.0 (wind load along)
• Internal pressure coefficient (GCpi):
• External pressure coefficient (GCp):
2. Wind blows on the side of a fully enclosed hospital located on open flat terrain in Arizona.
Determine the external pressure acting over the windward and leeward wall, which has a
height of 30 ft. The roof is flat.
