FINAL EXAM
1.
Leadership is highly relevant to CPD to ensure that every member of the organization
values and promotes professional growth. It is essential for teachers to continuously
improve their professional knowledge and skills to become effective agents of change in
the 21st century. The motivation for continuous learning comes from the leader who
exemplifies the importance of CPD in a person’s career as he himself invests in his own
professional development. For example, Mr. Luna is a school principal, he attends
seminar for school heads to improve himself in facilitating, administrating and
supervising the school. He organizes seminars, trainings, and symposiums such as InService Training (INSET) to equip his fellow teachers with necessary knowledge and
skills in teaching 21st century learners.
Leadership development is a CPD initiative that could support the transition because it
will help individuals to hone their skills and equip themselves with enough knowledge to
become effective leaders. For example, Mrs. Santos is promoted to the position of a head
teacher in the English Department. To improve her management skills, strategic thinking,
and decision-making, she attended seminars and trainings about leadership development.
Through these activities, she is able to quickly adapt to structural changes especially her
role in the school.
2. Tomlinson’s comparisons lead to an important recognition of the successful models of CPD
practices. These models are committed to promote collaboration, innovation, and accountability
within the organization. Collaboration creates a space for professionals to share their knowledge,
address issues, and develop solutions. Also, different sectors are entitled work collaboratively
with other in terms of joint activities, shared resources, and collaborative trainings. For example,
the industrial sector works with Technical Education and Skills Development Authority
(TESDA) to provide free food processing classes to the residents of the Municipality of Placer.
The advancement of technology leads us to innovative CPD practices in the form of online
classes, webinars, and virtual workshops. Teachers attend webinars to enhance their teaching
skills and improve their knowledge to teach effectively in the new normal during Covid-19.
Moreover, to be effective and successful, CPD practices should set clear expectations.
Professionals must reflect and track their progress through a journal or a portfolio. They are
expected to be responsible for their own personal and professional growth.
3. There are four steps in managing CPD practices involving plan, do, record, and reflect. The
first step an individual should take is to assess himself about his needs for improvement. He must
plan the steps he should take and set clear objectives. After planning, it is time to do the acts by
attending classes, seminars, trainings, and other programs or activities. Then he should monitor
his progress by recording his achievements and difficulties. CPD practices must include
activities that are beneficial to learning. With his records, he will reflect with his progress and
assess the value of his work.
