Allotment: The Guerrilla Warfare
To most people, war in the modern world is a matter of nuclear conflict,
involving long range guided missiles, hydrogen bombs, and all the push-button
paraphernalia of modern weaponry. While it is true that the armaments programs of
many countries put their main emphasis on such weapons, we cannot overlook
guerrilla warfare. In general, the words “guerrilla warfare” are used to designate any
military activity carried on by a comparatively small independent force or unit and
irregularly conducted, with or without military organization, in connection with a
regular war.Guerrilla warfare was a part of major and minor wars conducted in
ancient times and is reported in connection with most historical accounts of the wars
of the past and the present.
We, Israel, faced guerrilla warfare many times in our history and are,
unfortunately, currently facing it again in our conflict with Palestine.We would like to
first express our apologies for every lost innocent life and state that we are in deep
regret for this.We believe that war should never be waged in civilian areas but the
reality shows that groups like Hezbollah are deliberately pulling our forces to civilian
areas. This is one of the many problems of guerrilla warfare, with almost all of them
hurting civilians the most.Israel effectively employed the ‘siege’ method of warfare
against Hamas and other terror groups in Gaza. While this method isn’t something to
be proud of either, we believe that our method doesn’t impact both our and the
opposite state’s civilians, unlike the guerrilla warfare.
But this isn’t our main argument. We are aware that no reason behind spilling
blood is acceptable so we are calling on DISEC to prevent the militarization of
civilian zones and bring peace. We believe that solving conflicts between countries
can be done with civil methods without more blood spillage. We are here to find the
middle ground and bring long-term peace.
