The Order of National Artists (Orden ng Gawad
Pambansang Alagad ng Sining) is the highest national
recognition given to Filipino individuals who have made
significant contributions to the development of Philippine
arts; namely, Music, Dance, Theater, Visual Arts, Literature,
Film, Broadcast Arts, and Architecture and Allied Arts.

The Order of National Artists is thus a rank, a title, and a
wearable award that represents the highest national
recognition given to Filipinos who have made distinct
contributions in the field of arts and letters.

created?
It was established by virtue of
Presidential Proclamation No. 1001, s.
1972. It was signed by the former
President, Ferdinand E. Marcos in April
27, 1972
The first recognition of the
Order of National Artist was
Fernando Amorsolo in 1972.
