Find me!! Find me!! STRATEGIC PLAN TO HELP MITIGATE AND ADAPT TO THE EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE BY: MARY JUN D. VILLANUEVA How Climate Change Affect people? • The impacts of climate change include warming temperatures, changes in precipitation, increases in the frequency or intensity of some extreme weather events, and rising sea levels. These impacts threaten our health by affecting people's health, access to food and water, homes and communities, jobs and economy, and the natural world around them. How Climate Change Affect people? • Global warming is also the cause of the greatest environmental crisis in history, due to the unprecedented speed with which it has unfolded. Since 1880, the average global temperature has increased by 0.85°C, sea levels have risen by 19cm and the Arctic has lost 1.07 million km2 of ice per decade, according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Differences between mitigating and adapting to climate change • Mitigation is aimed at tackling the causes and minimizing the possible impacts of climate change. Differences between mitigating and adapting to climate change • Adaptation looks at how to reduce the negative effects it has and how to take advantage of any opportunities that arise. What can WE do to combat Climate Change? Adaptation Strategies •Enhancing infrastructure resilience Adaptation Strategies Adaptation Strategies •Implementing strategies water management Adaptation Strategies •Promoting ecosystem-based approaches Adaptation Strategies •Developing agriculture climate-resilient Adaptation Strategies •Strengthening disaster preparedness and early warning systems Adaptation Strategies •Ensuring social resilience and equity Mitigation Strategies Mitigation Strategies •Transitioning sources to low-carbon energy Mitigation Strategies •Improving energy efficiency Mitigation Strategies •Promoting sustainable transportation Mitigation Strategies •Reducing deforestation and promoting afforestation Mitigation Strategies •Enhancing waste management Mitigation Strategies •Encouraging practices sustainable agriculture What can YOU do to combat Climate Change? You can Mitigate by You can Mitigate by •Walking to school, friends, parks You can Mitigate by •Taking public transit You can Mitigate by •Turning off lights You can Mitigate by •Turning down the heat by 1 or 2 degrees in my house You can Mitigate by •Using fans instead of air conditioning You can Mitigate by •Finding recreational activities that do not involve using electricity. You can help adapt to Climate Change by You can help adapt to Climate Change by •Not buying a house on the flood plain You can help adapt to Climate Change by •Listening for heat alerts, floods and storm warning and advisories You can help adapt to Climate Change by •Drinking the heat. lots of water when out of You can help adapt to Climate Change by •Getting involve in committees dealing with climate change issues You can help adapt to Climate Change by •Building awareness of my own carbon footprint to make lifestyle change. You can mitigate and adapt by You can mitigate and adapt by •Taking shorter showers (water conservation) You can mitigate and adapt by •Planting a tree You can mitigate and adapt by •Growing a garden. You can mitigate and adapt by •Buying local food. You can mitigate and adapt by •Volunteering to restore plant and animal habitat. What will the Earth look like if we defeat Climate Change? What will the Earth look like if we defeat climate change? • Mobility Most journeys will be made by train or shared electric car, equipped with algorithms that will select the best route in order to reduce consumption and maximize the number of passengers. What will the Earth look like if we defeat climate change? and We will live in houses fed by renewable energy and Town Planning scarcely any concrete buildings will be built. There will be fewer parking zones in our streets and more urban allotments, parks and gardens. • Architecture Activity time As a student, what will you do to lessen the problem about climate change? THANK YOU!!!!!
